Our meal was so good. Much better than I even expected. Portobello mushroom starters. Wife had the excellent bouillabaisse. I had the pork. Without doubt the nicest pork I have ever had. Wonderfully slow roasted, with incredible crackling and a lovely sauce. We were too full for dessert. Really nice Malbec to drink with it. Great, friendly service. Fantastic!

It appears that there are three restaurants operating under one roof here. There is the excellent-in-all-areas restaurant that the majority seem to experience. Then there is the great food but bad service restaurant and, finally, the great service but poor food one.Unfortunately our experience was with the latter so Iâd like at this point to say that our waiter was exceptional, especially as he seemed a little uneasy â I think he knew what was to come.It was a quite Monday evening so we were seated immediately. We were given the menus which had two vegetarian starters and two vegetarian mains. Luckily one of each really appealed to me. Just a quick note about the menu â out of the seven (see later!) courses we had, three were Italian, one Sicilian, two Caribbean and only one French.Our drinks orders were taken. I chose what appeared to be the only French white wine on the menu and I have to say it was excellent. My partner chose a single gin and tonic (half a point off because it came with the whole bottle of tonic already poured into the glass which was not what he wanted)Our waiter then came to take our food order. On hearing that we were vegetarians he then produced the correct menu which had four choices each of starter and main. I stayed with my original options but my partner changed.The starters arrived. Mine, wild mushroom crostini, was delicious. My partnerâs, Sicilian soup with coconut dumplings arrived, without the dumplings and not looking very appetising â much like a tin of chopped tomatoes with chopped onion in it. We asked about the dumplings to be told they didnât have any! So, why did the kitchen not tell the waiter to ask us to make a new choice rather than sending out half a dish! As it wasnât very nice either, they did immediately swap it for deep fried brie with redcurrant compote. I think this was quite nice but an almost clear, very runny liquid a compote? Not sure about that one.The mains arrived. I ordered a pasta dish with peas and I think asparagus. Canât remember exactly. Anyway a pasta dish with peas and sugar snap peas arrived. There was no sauce as such, just a coating of something on the pasta. This was very âglueyâ in the mouth and very dry. Not easy to collect the peas without any sauce. Did not really enjoy and did not finish it. My partner had beetroot gnocchi which he said was ok.Then to pudding. Ever since I saw the vegetarian menu I have been really looking forward to this. Roasted pineapple in caramel rum. Yum? No. Small pieces of chopped pineapple, maybe warmed in the microwave (enough to melt the ice cream that was then piled on top) but definitely not roasted and not enough to stay warm while I tried to eat it. Caramel? No. I think white rum had just been poured over. I decided to be open and gave it a try. First mouthful â completely burned my mouth and throat, in a spice way. Not sure what the spice was but it made me cough and my eyes water and completely destroyed my taste buds â not a problem because I didnât want to finish it!We were so disappointed, especially as the coupon was a gift to my partner for his birthday. I honestly think someone had come up with a great menu but then left. I believe the restaurant has changed management lately and maybe the issues are with which manager/chef are on duty at the time as the reviews appear to be either great or terrible with nothing in between. Up to you whether you are prepared to gamble on which restaurant is open at the time you want to go but I will not be returning (wouldnât mind knowing more about the wine though!!).

Its our second visit . French Living doesn't disappoint , food, service and charm , lovely attentive but not intrusive staff ,food nice and hot , just enough time between courses , can`t fault it . 2 starters and mains with a carafe of red for under £50 , a perfect prix theatre stop .
