We love food halls in big Asian cities but Urbana IL ain't neither Bangkok, KL nor Singapore. Many issues distract from an otherwise promising concept: Poor, unappealing lighting, bad (or turned down?) kitchen exhaust (Your clothes will smell, for sure), uncomfortable seating, mediocre food (Diner-level, Diner-priced: Frozen fries, frozen patties, Mexican choices poor and overcooked. One stall was closed) We visited on a Friday night and they ran out of beer? What? Come on, get serious! Come 2019 they will be OOB. Sorry.
Where to eat American food in Urbana: The Best Restaurants and Bars
There's a reason other Chinese fast food outlets are expanding in town, while Hot Wok isn't: The food. It tends toward greasy and sugary. It's also inconsistent: one day the hot & sour soup is fine, the next it tastes watered down. I've repeatedly asked for brown rice, but they refuse to offer it, saying it's too expensive, etc. Baloney. If they can make shrimp fried rice, they can make plain brown rice. Finally, they offer no non-carb side option (as Panda does). So I typically end up throwing away half the lunch because I can't eat 2 pounds of noodles or rice. Some plain steamed veggies instead, please! I'm eager for the new competitor to open down the street so I can start going there instead.

We were in town for a concert at Krannert on the U of I campus. This Starbucks is located on the south side of the building and it is a very roomy one with a ton of comfortable seating. We were able to enjoy their wifi while we sipped and waited for time to go over to Krannert. Great baristas, too!
