I visit this diner about 3-4 times a month. The food is good and the portions are large. The prices on the daily specials are very budget friendly. Most of the waitresses have been there for a while and are very pleasant and efficient. The management is very personable and quick to address and concerns or complaints. You have to try the tasty baked goods such as the enormous cakes and pies or pastries that are baked on-site daily. Visit the Empire Diner today. You will be glad that you did.
Where to eat Cafe food in Upper Darby: The Best Restaurants and Bars
Small restaurant that offers breakfast, lunch, dinner around the clock. Food has always been hot, delicious, and huge portions. Service staff is friendly and on-top of things. Restaurant is clean; always seems to be well-patronized - probably because of all of the above. Dine-in and take out available. Cash only (didn't know this the 1st time I went in for a "take-out" order, but the owner owns a pizza shop a few shops down where they accept credit card payments; paid at the pizza shop; didn't have to go home for cash. ATM available, but I don't use ATMs).Only negative features are it can be difficult to find street parking (no parking lot) and although a cozy atmosphere, the restaurant is a little tight and small. Regardless, the food and service far out-weigh the 2 little inconveniences. We've been back and will continue to go back.

Diner Food
We stopped here for an early dinner on the way through the area. I used to live nearby and remembered going there for coffee and late night snacks. This was the first time there in 30 years and it still looks exactly the same. It is clean, cozy and has a huge menu. We had a turkey club with fries and a chicken parm "mini meal". The turkey club was exactly as expected and the portion of fries was generous. I ended up taking half of the sandwich home. The mini meal was a huge portion of chicken parm with spaghetti, a salad and bread. There was really nothing mini about it and for 9.95 it was a bargain. Service was fine. Food was fine. This is a true gem of a neighborhood diner, complete with all the local charm one should expect from a diner on the edge of Upper Darby.
