Reading the history on the back of the well oiled menu but had to quit to order. It seemed the only game in town for lunch for a couple passing thru town except for a couple of uninviting appearing bars. Town is very old and quiet and this place seems like the heart of the town and locals gathering place. It was pretty full at 2 pm on a Monday but we entered and sat ourselves at a booth. Menu's were delivered immediately by a waitress and soft drink orders taken and drinks brought over. We ordered and began the long wait for the food, For most of our wait there seemed to be only one cook and he was apparently not a multi tasker so meals came out at a glacial rate. They weren't discriminating as we watched the order and everybody seemed to do a substantial wait in turn,Food was standard diner fare, reasonably priced, filling, but nothing special. Flies were a problem but that is hard to handle in August. Bathroom was usable though not a place I would choose to read the Sunday newspaper.A piece of old Americana worth trying for the experience as it won't be here in 20 years.
I've eaten breakfasts and lunches here previously and was usually quite pleased with the food. Sadly that seems to have changed. Our breakfasts today came after a protracted delay and with cold potatoes, a very greasy sausage patty, and almost undrinkable coffee. The service was friendly and attentive and I wanted to tip but the credit card machine does not allow the tip to be added on the payment. The place seems popular with locals but I suspect this is loyalty or lack of alternatives.
Where to eat Pizza food in Ogdensburg: The Best Restaurants and Bars
Went with friends when they started serving Fish Fry on Fridays. It was really, really good. Met the Matriarch who was passing down her knowledge to her daughter (manager) & granddaughter (chef). They all seemed very interested in providing quality food. They succeeded. Fish was outstanding!@ weeks later ordered the exact same meals for take-out and was shocked at how horrible it was. Perch was completely inedible, haddock limp & greasy. Don't know what happened, I may go back to try them again this Spring (eat in, no more take-out).
