I hadn't been to a Silver Diner in five years because the three times I had tried them had been disappointing. Same thing with the food again.Service was excellent - friendly, prompt, helpful. She went out of her way to help my friend who has a significant food allergy.I had skipped a meal so I could enjoy fully a platter of American breakfast. The scrambled eggs clearly showed the ravages of a heat lamp. The pan fries looked and tasted like they had sat in oil for a long time. The chicken sausage had very good flavor but it was so thin that it looked like shoe leather and was a little hard to cut. The great part was also the most important part: the biscuit. It was very good! Paired with their great raspberry jam, the biscuit saved the day.Overall, it was not a meal I would repeat. If I was with someone who really wanted to go, I would try another dish.

29 Diner

We are "new" owners and we are honored to be stewarding the 29 Diner! We cleaned her up greatly and have an amazing southern cooking head chef, who specializes in home cooked, comfort, diner food. We hope you stop in and give us a try. John

This is a good, casual spot to meet up with our college student, who's at George Mason. The owner, John, couldn't be any nicer or more welcoming -- he's always encouraging our son to bring his baseball team in for a celebration. You might even get hugs from the staff once you're regulars! Our son orders steak and french fries or the chicken sandwich every time -- it's good to see your college kid eat a big, filling meal! With the smoker cranked up outside, of course you have to try something from the BBQ. I've found the pork to be the best bet there. If you want something healthy, though, you'll be hard pressed to order. I generally get the BLT, but it's not really what I'm looking for. The tomatoes are the sorry excuse you get for tomatoes anywhere and the bacon is so overcooked (fried?) as to be almost inedible. I'm a sucker for onion rings, though, and they're good here. But, really, diner food is diner food... you go to a diner for comfort food, not haute cuisine. The atmosphere makes the place, and the owner is supremely supportive of the military and backs local causes, like student suicide prevention. We feel good about frequenting the diner when we're in town. It's an easy walk from the Marriott Residence Inn, Fairfax City, although you have to cross a busy highway to get there.

Try anything on the menu. I haven't found one item yet that wasen't very good or better. The All-You-Can eat pancakes for $4.00 is one of the best deals around. If you are AARP, bring your membership card along for a very good discount at checkout. A good 55+ menu, as well.
