We struggled to find a restaurant open whilst in Navia on a Sunday evening. This would not have been our first choice as it is more cafe style. However we were pleasantly surprised as the food and wine was excellent. We had the famous Cachopo and this was the best we had on our two week travels. The escalope of veal was also very good and our one risotto of cod and prawns was absolutely delicious. Service was friendly and efficient and as she knew we were waiting to eat served us immediately the kitchen opened at 8 o'clock. We didn't have any starters or deserts and the bill for four including two bottles of wine, a beer and a small water was approximately 76⬠which we considered reasonable.

The place is very nice, the atmosphere cosy, and personnel is there when you need them but not on top of you (which I like). Tables are quite distant from each other, making this place an excellent choice for a romantic evening. The food was extremely good, the fried croquettes of liquid "oricios" (sea urchin) addictive and the fish had meaty texture but was delicate to the palate. Splendid.

Over the course of a week I visited twice for food and each time was blown away. On my first visit we had navajas (razor clams), croquetas, followed by my first experience of cachopo. Cachopo is the dish EVERYONE visiting Asturias needs to try. A thin fillet steak with cheese and jamon on top, then another steak, dipped in egg and breadcrumbs and fried, served with a blue cheese sauce made with the local cabrales. The second visit we had a plate of cecina (cured beef) with some queso de cabra (goats cheese) on top as our starter. For our main we had the amazing, breathtaking, arroz caldoso con marisco, which translates as soupy/brothy rice with seafood. This dish blows paella out of the water. It is a similar to paella and a risotto, filled with the finest fruits of the sea; clams, prawns, mussels, and lobster. A delight for the tastebuds.
