We stopped here because they had a high review rating. I'm sorry to say the food was just so so. It's a very small restaurant with maybe 50 seats. I ordered the sloppy Joe which was the daily special. I haven't eaten a sloppy joe in years and thought it would be a nice throw back. From what I remember from the past of eating them is they are called sloppy Joe because they are sloppy. They are juicy and great... Sadly, this one was not juicy and had BIG chunks of meat that were so large you had to break them up before you could eat them. It was right at noon and was pretty busy but unfortunately I was not impressed.

You can sleep-in and still get breakfast until 2:00pm on the weekdays and 3:00pm on the weekends. Homemade lunch specials made daily ranging from corned beef reubens to spinach salads. Amazing views of Grandfather Mountain.
This restaurant happened to be down the road from where we stayed and was recommended by the motel we stayed at. We ate breakfast here and the food is good, fast service and reasonably priced. Not huge portions but enough to hold you till dinner. I was disappointed in the biscuits, kind of dry and flat flavor. The rye toast was awesome!

Valle Crucis is a cute little community, but your stomach really needs to plan ahead. Unless you want candy from the Mast Store, the Mast Farm Inn's fine dining has pretty much been your only option. Sarge's Watauga Farm Diner, across from the Mast Store Annex, is a welcome alternative for breakfast and lunch. The diner is family owned and operated, using family recipes. The homestyle meals and sandwiches are affordably priced, especially for table service. I couldn't make up my mind which side orders I wanted, so I ordered for the vegetable plate-- your choice of three sides and a bread for only five dollars. The hushpuppy muffins were yummy, and the Gerry potatoes were made just like I like new potatoes. The family runs it, so if they get busy (like they were today), you might have to wait a minute. Be patient-- remember, by the time you can make it somewhere else, they'll have you served.
