I have never had a Firehouse Sub I didn't like. They give you a free sub on your birthday, which is very generous, as these subs aren't your normal Subway subs. The restaurant has always been very clean, and having the option of outdoor seating is also nice. It's a bit pricey for a lunch stop at around $10/meal, but for an every-once-in-a-while treat, it's a great option. The mix-and-match Coke machine is also a big draw.

Subways range from fair to good, the Nicholasville Subway is not the best I have seen but it is one of the best. The servers are experienced and know how to portion your choices to build very tasty subs. If you want a very good sandwich in a hurry this is a great place to go. It is only one block from US 68 at the intersection of Edgewood Drive, but if you are not familiar with the location you might miss it as it is in a strip office mall.

This review is based simply on my service as I did not get a chance to try the sanwhiches. I arrived at 9:05pm on a Monday night. I am very cognizant of the time as I was unable to go to my usual Subway due to them closing at 9pm. This particular Subway is in Wal-Mart and is open until 10pm. I went to the counter and noticed a young man sweeping or mopping the floor. He looked up and I stated I needed to order two sandwiches. I was met with an eyeroll and a heavy sigh. He preceded to put the broom/mop down and grab some gloves (did not wash his hands in between). I let this go as to not irritate him more even though I am a RN and have worked in food service when I was younger so I KNOW you wash your hands before handling food even if you are wearing gloves. In an irritated voice he asked what I wanted, at that point I told him that if he had other things to do other than helping me, I could go somewhere else. He stated it wasn't a problem but the attitude remained. He went on to make my first sandwich and when I stated I needed a meatball sub for my other samdwhich he stated that they stopped serving meatballs. In reality he meant, I put the meatballs up and I have no intention of getting them back out. At that point I cut my loses and stated I was sorry for taking up his time and I would go somewhere else. Turning to walk away I got another loud huff and I'm pretty sure another eyeroll.I am not hard to please by any means. As you can see I am fair with my reviews. I don't have unreasonable expectations. I have worked in food service and still work in customer service so I can empathize. Had I shown up 5 or 10 minutes to closing time I can understand the irritation but the attitude was really uncalled for. He was young, that is not an excuse as I have teenagers and they would never dream of being so disrespectful to an adult. Management really needs to nip this kind of behavior in the bud or they will be losing money on the nights he closes. Some more training regarding hand hygiene is vital especially with the surge in Hepatitis A we have seen recently here in Ky. I'll try to stick to the Subway I usually go to on Blueberry Lane. I know the same family owns both but the staff is much friendlier.
