I was visiting Quesnel and we decided to get take-out. The food was good but the prices are very high. The service was ok but not great.

Went for dinner here. Waited a long time for a server to come. She put the menus on the table and left without asking us about drinks. Took a long time for her to come back and take the order. Took order also for drinks. Food showed up, without drinks. She never came back to check on us. A friendly fellow (the owner?) showed up to take the empty plates and give us the bill. Food was lukewarm.

Kakalots Restaurant

This evening we visited Kakalots Chinese Restaurant again (which is located across the bridge (west side of Quesnel [outbound], on the left just past Bliss’ coffee shop).Definitely glad we stopped in again—everything was as good as we remembered: tasty, well-prepared and well-cooked food, at a reasonable price, with generous portions--and served with a smile—great service. The atmosphere is that of a family-café-type environment, very comfortable and friendly--frequented by locals (always a good sign!). Well worth figuring out where they are! We had combos #5 and #9. All good! What I noticed: The almond chicken was NOT overcooked...or greasy (unlike that of another restaurant here in town...). The vegetables (including bok choy, celery, carrot, cauliflower and broccoli florets, and mushrooms) were cooked just right. Tender, but not mushy or slimy--just perfect for vegetables served in this manner. Sauces were tasty. In particular, the sweet and sour sauce is NOT that disgusting heavy, cloying red stuff often served, seemingly--straight from the can. (Okay, I guess they warmed it a bit before it’s dumped on the items.) As mentioned above (almond chicken), our other fried items (shrimp, chicken) were just as good—lightly breaded, deep-fried—and retain a delicate, non-greasy taste.Kudos--love this restaurant and we'll be back again!
