Having worked on Lake Como all season I thought I should try Hayashi before heading home. I am disappointed... not with the food but with myself for not visiting this fantastic restaurant earlier in the summer. On arrival early Tuesday evening I was made to feel welcome, the menu was explained to me by the waiter and they offered their own personal recommendations. I am glad I hadn't eaten all day as this allowed me to explore the menu and try numerous dishes. Every serving was extremely fresh and well presented. Portion sizes were perfect. If you wanted more you could just ask :) The restaurant has as relaxed atmosphere and the service is with a smile. If you fancy a meal out that doesn't involve pizza or pasta try Hayashi. If you are staying on Lake Como a taxi would cost approximately 20.00e each way. Thankyou team Hayashi. I will recommend you to my colleagues next season.

Non è la prima volta che andiamo alla Perla d'Oriente, di solito però prenotiamo. Questa volta all'avventura e ci è andata bene, il titolare ci ha trovato ugualmente un tavolo fuori (visto il caldo). Sempre gentile e premuroso, abbiamo come sempre fatto una scelta su diversi piatti risultati abbastanza buoni come al solito, premessa deve piacerti il cibo cinese, che per il nostro gusto non è fatto comunque a parer mio per tutti i giorni.In definitiva, ogni tanto vale la pena ritornarci, per provare qualcosa di diverso.

The location, with inside and outside tables overlooking Lake Lugano, is perfect. The ambiance is relaxed and friendly - and has a feeling of the visit being an occasion. The owner and his staff are charming and personally interested in the their cuisine - which is a mixture of Chinese and Malay. The menu and wine list provides a decent choice, and everything arrives in good time and is attractively presented. So it's strange to feel that the meal and the place don't quite work. Part of that feeling is that, apart from the lake view, it actually isn't much more special than thousands of standard unpretentious Asian restaurants across the UK and Europe. The other part of the feeling is that it is over-priced. This is a pity - but it matters.
