This is a terrific local cafe that offers wonderful coffee and pastries as well as ice cream and light lunch fare. The owner and staff are very friendly and helpful. There is plenty of comfortable seating and the atmosphere is very inviting. It is a great place and definitely worth a veer off the highway to stop by! We were staying nearby visiting family, and ended up going daily because we enjoyed it so much!

The price of empire, as demonstrated by the Roman Empire and ever since, is inflation, exemplified here by the ever-increasing prices at the Rochester Cafe. I always stop here on my way north to either Montpelier or Burlington to visit my daughters, and this trip was no exception. I had a specialty sandwich (can't remember which one, but it had the best ingredients on the best, "artisan-crafted" bread, along with a couple of cups of gourmet coffee. The price, including tip, was the best part of a twenty. In contrast, for less than 2/3 the price, I had a wonderful meal in a Viet Names restaurant in Montpelier later that day. Good food--but at HIGH prices!
