Reviews on Cafe food in Kairouan, Kairouan Governorate, Tunisia. Kairouan (Arabic: القيروان Qeirwān, also known as al-Qayrawan), is the capital of the Kairouan Governorate in Tunisia. It is a UNESCO World Heritage site. The city was founded by the Umayyads around 670. In the period of Caliph Mu'awiya (reigned 661–680), it became an important centre for Sunni Islamic scholarship and Quranic learning, and thus attracting a large number of Muslims from various parts of the world, next only to Mecca and Medina. The holy Mosque of Uqba is situated in the city.
Things to do in Kairouan
After a long day on the road, and walking Kairouan this was an absolute oasis. It actually felt like being in a cool, hip European cafe. Very laid back, the two young lads working there were super friendly and the food was excellent (hard to miss the mark with nutella or savoury crepe). Bonus was the terrace lookout for decent photo of the mosque.
Excellent service, thanks to Marawan and another chap (apologies for forgetting the name). The food and desserts were amazing.Certainly a hidden gem
