Find out what Cafe restaurants to try in Big Sur. Jagged cliffs pummeled by surf line the Pacific Coast Highway along Big Sur, creating some of California's most memorable ocean vistas between Carmel and the northern tip of San Luis Obispo County. Jack Kerouac and Henry Miller found inspiration in its fog-banked canyons and meadows. Gray whales migrate past twice a year, and elephant seals bask on the sandy shores. Luxury hotels, restaurants and art galleries cluster in a six-mile strip, giving way to redwood-filled state parks on either side.

The portions are huge! I wish I could have finished it all. Super friendly staff as well. I wish they could make me breakfast everyday!

Beautiful outdoor seating with spectacular view of 60 miles of California coast. Brunch menu/counter service.
Having been closed out of Nepenthe for lunch on a surprisingly busy weekday, we decided to try Café Kevah down the steps instead. It turned out to be a very pleasant peaceful meal under an umbrella on the sunny patio overlooking the Pacific. We had plenty of space to ourselves, as contrasted with the jam-packed Nepenthe upstairs, and the view was just as beautiful. As we didn't want a big meal, at first we started with glasses of wine, then noticed a large tray of freshly-baked savory items being delivered and asked what they were. None of them were listed on the menu, so be sure to ask whether there are any additions when you visit. We chose an excellent sausage with cheese baked in pastry dough to share -- delicious and just right for a light meal. At first I was put off by having to order at the counter, but the staff could not have been nicer so the entire experience was a pleasure. Next time we'll head here first!

COAST Big Sur is Highway 1's premier destination for fine art, one-of-a-kind gifts and elevated casual cuisine.
Took a road trip from San Francisco down through Big Sur for the views. We were NOT disappointed! There's several places along the drive to pull over and take photos. It was very relaxing & breathtaking. Would do it regularly if I lived closer!
