Found this cafe on Trip adviser so when we arrived in St. Margaret's hope, we looked it up. There isn't a lot to see and do in the area, so we popped in for a coffee and a cake. The coffee was fine but the cakes my husband and son had were stale and dry. Wouldn't go again.Hmmm sorry but I find these types of reviews a bit frustrating as you were asked if everything was ok and left no negative feedback - if you had left your cake or mentioned it dryness you would have been offered an alternative replacement or refund. Is your 2 stars for us or St Margaretâs hope? Iâm afraid I donât think you have given our lovely island a proper chance - there is so much beauty, history and talent here, but you do have to seek it out - we have wonderful coastal trail walks and wildlife, beautiful beaches, historical sites like tomb of the eagles and tomb of the otters (which also has a bistro) there are shops, a post office and galleries like hoxa tapestry and the loft workshop, Marengo gardens, a (free) museum, the Cromarty Hall which has regular music events, exhibitions, dancing & films. There are two pubs (one which has a restaurant incl), and we have tennis courts, a golf club and bowling club - all of which are accessible to visitors. What is it you were exactly expecting from a small rural Scottish island??

The Murray Arms Gun Deck Restaurant serves some of the freshest seafood around. Daily Specials and a menu that changes with seasonal influences.
We ate our evening meal here on our first evening in St Margaret's Hope since it was close to our lodging place. Very average meal. Very poor service. The waitress disappeared after delivering our meals. There was a second waitress who was glancing over at us but never came to the table until we called to her. All the other tables had finished eating and gone. We were left sitting there with our empty plates. When we asked where she went we were told "Oh she's over in the bar." Would not recommend.

Found this on Trip advisor so thought we would try it. It is a very busy restuarant in a particular pleasant spot so we thought we would book a table, which we did. Decided to have a walk around the area first and left the car in the cafe car park before asking the proprietor how we could get down to the coast. He was rather rude and wanted our assurance that we were going to eat at the cafe. We assured we had reserved a table so he told us how to get to the path. Not a lot of other cafe's around the area and we had booked so we decided to stay. The food was very nice and presented well, but not cheap. The proprietor needs to improve his manner when dealing with potential clients. Would recommend the food, location, and service in the cafe by the other staff, but would think twice about returning with this disagreeable man around.
