A quick search in TA under steakhouses and this beauty came out. As a solo traveller itâs sometimes seen as weird to go out to dine. The waiter was very polite and attentive due to me being Welsh and not Finnish. My food came a little time later after dribbling watching other tables receive theirs. I watched the meat get handled, cooked, flame grilled, sliced and served. And boy it was right on. Perfectly cooked, perfectly pink, and perfectly washing down with Heineken. I would 100% come back.

Visited the restaurant at lunch time. There were three different portions available for lunch by 10⬠each. I chose corn bread with chili chicken and salad. It was delicious with just perfect balanced tenderness of chili and perfectly cooked chicken. Restaurant itself represents very casual style, atmosphere there was relaxed.

We, along with apparently many others celebrating winter graduation day for high school students, celebrated with dinner at the Hotel Tourniâs Grill It restaurant. Thereâs lots of good to share; we loved the open kitchen, where steaks and burgers were cooked over an open fire, and it was fun to watch the mostly all-female chefs cooking up food. Inspiring, really. The food was good, too (if pricey for central Finland). And the next door bar did a massive business with truly gorgeous-looking cheeseburgers (for a family event we felt it better to order more formal food, and we loved our skirt steak). Whereâs thereâs big room for improvement is in the service ethic. It was such a slow eveningâ¦took forever to get anywhereâ¦and the worst of it was we could see the chefs taking such care to plate our food just right and it was fresh and beautifully cooked and then it just sat. And sat. And sat. Where was the pick-up? And of course when it was delivered to the table, it was lukewarm. Such a shame and it didnât reflect well on the chefs because if you hadnât watched them, and appreciated the care they took, you would have thought the mediocrity was there fault and not the fault of the restaurantâs operation.More on the service: You had to ask for water replenishment (always a bad sign of a badly run eatery) and even needed to ask to refill a wine glass (it took three tries and the server, kind of defensive at the point, didnât proffer the varietal requested but we were too exhausted to send it back). Even worse, the aâla carte extras werenât delivered, and when asked, he was offensively aggressive, saying âit hadnât come out of the oven yet,â as if the delay was due to a quality effort. Since every other person at the table had gotten their sides, the waiterâs explanation rang false. The other odd thing about this restaurant and bar is that on weekdays it doesnât open until 4 p.m. On a very grim December afternoon, when we arrived at 3:15 p.m., the restaurant and bar, which are by check-in desks so are right in the center of the action, were completely closed. Fortunately thereâs the Sky Bar on the top floor, but seriously, not a welcoming aspect of this hotel. Look, Tampere is just now developing its own food culture, and I want to support it, and clearly the chefs are doing good work. Itâs no good if the operations side of the restaurant is wholly mediocre. Fix it, guys, and youâve got a smash hit. Donât fix it? We wonât be back.
