This was the recommendation from Ryokan Wakamatsu where we were staying. Our request for dinner reservations only came about at 4pm so the restaurant was full already, and they could only slot us in at 6pm.After a 10 min taxi ride, we arrived at the restaurant where a chiller display in front proudly displayed various cuts of beef. Seems like a good start. Given the location, itâs not anywhere near the usual touristy locations. We were brought to our table in a private room on the second floor, and it seemed like every party were in their own private rooms. We sat on tatami mats on the floor, cross-legged. So for those who struggle to sit in this fashion for the duration of a meal, pls do reconsider.Suffice to say the beef served was really fabulous and pricing wise was relatively affordable and consistent to what we would have paid in Singapore, but the quality being superior. Be warned that the menu is only in Japanese and the staff spoke very little English. Do balance the meal with a salad or two, as they were equally delicious. We left feeling very satisfied and contented. The experience was worth every Yen we paid.

They say when you're in Hokkaido never leave without tasting their original yakiniku. I'm talking about the famous Genghis Khan, Hokkaido's famous local dish. You might be wondering what sort of meal Genghis Khan is? It's all about grilling mutton in a special grill that has a raised mound on the center. Grilling the mutton with other vegetables like bean sprouts and onions, and then dip in a special sauce. I'm a big fan of yakiniku, but never have I tried tasting lamb meat. Yes, it's like an ordinary meat except it has an after taste, but I still liked it. The dipping sauce has the right balance of sweetness and tartness that goes really well with the grilled vegetables too. This is something that you shouldnât miss when you are sightseeing in Hokkaido.
I don't think many non Japanese pop by here but I was inspired by Dr Leslie, a famous Singaporean food blogger who was here on a trip organised by the Hakodate tourist office. As I arrived a little late in the afternoon, the most famous set was sold out and I got the basic yakiniku and shabu shabu sets. The meat was tender and great tasting and I can see the clear marbling on the meat. Likewise the gravy and fats from the cooking goes very well with the meat. Definitely worth coming again!!
