We didn't really plan our trip to Gainesville, other than our visit to the Atlanta Botanical Garden there - so, finding Johnny's Bar-B-Q along the ways was a total bonus. Even better was the fact they had spare ribs that were pretty dang good. We ordered at the counter, including some of the homemade banana pudding placed so temptingly near the cash register, and shortly received a fine BBQ dinner. We did the classic beans and slaw as sides (because, well, that's just how you need to check out a new BBQ place), and both were delicious, especially when combined into a single perfect bite (because, well, that's just what you do when you're an old school, BBQ-eatin' Southerner). The fries and Brunswick stew were also pretty satisfying. All in all, a fine find.

Had lunch today at the Inked Pig on Main St. The pulled pork and beef brisket were excellent. There are an assortment of bbq sauces for everyone's taste. The Brunswick Stew was very meaty and excellent taste. I especially enjoyed the Smoked Chicken Mull. If you are not familiar with chicken mull, it is a creamy soup with chicken - an old southern tradition. I will definitely be back for the BBQ, but I cant wait to try the other sides. This is by far the best BBQ in town. Give it a try and you will not be disappointed. The service was excellent!

nothing fancy. no secret rubs, nothing passed down 7 generations, no magic elixirs just plain goodness derived from smoldering hickory. portions are bountiful. stew is better'n most, meatier than any and packed with flavor. rich man beans are heavy with smoked meat, collards are collards, some like em others don't. i don't. service is engaging, friendly and entertaining. they do a good job here, always have. the food is delicious. the place is clean enough for a bbq joint and the proprietor a down rich diamond in the rough and a fountain of information. good enjoy the show and some good bbq while you dine.
