As locals we have given this place many tries hoping for another decent food option in Penguin. Asian food was ok at first before going further downhill with every visit, either very bland or just plain strange flavours, small portions, below average sides and sauces. It seemed like the chef just didn't care as it had been better initially and consistently got worse. We have eaten at most places across the NW Coast and Wokking Wombat just did not stack up as being either good food or value for money in terms of Asian cuisine. Desperately hoping for another place in town besides El Perro to have a meal we decided to give it ago here again tonight, we thought if we stick to the pub classics it would be atleast ok- unfortunately not. $26 Chicken schitzel average at best, much smaller than other pubs around for same price or less, very few average chips and handful of mesclun mix with no dressing- the absolute topper was that the mushroom sauce was offensively bad, not only average but bad- left a bad aftertaste, seems like it had sweet soy sauce in it. Having eaten the same dish at pretty much every pub between Port Sorell and Burnie this was hands down the worst I've had. My partner's Garlic prawns were just as bad; absolutely no flavour, no garnish, no care, reminded me of something they would serve in a nursing home. Feel sorry for the wait staff having to serve this slop, they at least tried. Don't bother coming here, the chef has either given up or is completely incompetent- very dissapointing for Penguin as food is fine at Cafe RA and Argosy operated by the same group. I noticed the replies to these messages often say 'we normally get great feedback on our food', as someone who has been here many times now and speaks with a lot of locals I can assure you that is not the case from what I have seen, so many people I know refuse to go back, and having been burnt again tonight we are now in that camp. Please get a new chef, we want to come, but can't keep wasting money on crap food.We are always unhappy to hear any of our customers are unhappy. Our staff always check if our patrons have enjoyed their meals and very rarely get any feedback like you have posted. We would love to discuss with you personally so we can try to resolve. Should you be willing to do so please send us contact details and we will get our Food Services Manager to get in touch. You can contact us direct at the Neptune on [email protected] or if you prefer at Head Office on [email protected]. We hope to hear from you
Where to eat Cafe food in Penguin: The Best Restaurants and Bars
The perfect place to enjoy a wide range of indoor and outdoor recreational and social activities (Keno facilities, Billiards/Snooker 3 tables , adjacent Golf 9 Hole Course, adjacent 2 Bowling Rinks, & BBQ facilities. Premises are available for hire for private events, Weddings, Parties, Meetings). Very friendly and welcoming Bar & Social Staff. The scenic outlook on the NW Coast & Bass Strait are impressive. Absolutely worth the time to drop in and relax.

We were looking forward to a lovely meal and catchup with friends but the first thing I tried on my plate were the chips...they were almost cold and soggy, not fresh at all!Not good enough to maintain a standard you would expect anywhere.Soup was nice and hot, pork ribs were disappointing, I would not have them again from Furners...staff were friendly, atmosphere good, but you want your meal to be acceptable and it wasn't..shame!
