I visited this place on two occasions for lunch. The food was excellent and the service on the second occasion was a little on the slow side owing to my order being mislaid. But again the lunch was good even though I ate alone as my partner had eaten hers while I waited for mine. They were very apologetic. I will definately go there again.

La Taverne du Parvis

We visited with friends on a bitterly cold March Saturday as we headed for the ferry home. We had stopped in Coutances and parked near the cathedral to stretch our legs and have lunch. I wondered whether we had made a poor choice as there did not seem many people there when we looked and it was right opposite the cathedral and could turn out to be a tourist trap.I was wrong- when we were lead to our table we realised there were more tables beyond the bar area which we could see. The place filled up with locals of all ages and was soon buzzing.Between our party we had 2 x €18.20 and 1 x €14.20 menus and one chose 2 courses from the main menu. There is a wide choice on the menu, enough to please everyone. Each dish was delicious and the portions were large. We had patè, goats cheese salad. herring salad and local ham. For mains: steak and chips, skate, gammon and pasta. The steak and chips was one of the best on our trip. The dessert were îles flottantes and ice cream - including an excellent pistachio one.The wine was pleasant and reasonably priced. We were all more than satisfied that we had opted to eat there.
