It lies on the north side of the Thames Estuary, 40 miles (64 km) east of central London. It is bordered to the north by Rochford and to the west by Castle Point. It is home to the longest leisure pier in the world, Southend Pier. London Southend Airport is located 1.5 NM (2.8 km; 1.7 mi) north of the town centre.

I have visited Grumpy's quite a few times. Our latest visit was for an early dinner as we were feeling peckish.Their milkshakes are delicious, they come with everything, cream, cherries and a flake.This visit i enjoyed their steak and rib combo with curlyfries. Nice big portions and their curly fries are especially delicious.They have lots of nice American styled food such as burgers and hot dogs plus a large selection of meals , including a nice choice for my vegetarian sister. Always enjoyed what ever i have eaten. They also do an amazing breakfast. Their full England is really good, also their steak and eggs. The only downfall is the pancakes.. No maple syrup!! Occasionally had their cocktails and those i can also highly recommend! I would definitely recommend Grumpy's Diner, never had a bad meal, always friendly staff, especially Ryan, he is a credit to the Diner! Don't miss the chance to eat here.

We recently visited Gallacher's on a Saturday night to celebrate a family birthday. We'd never been there before but are regular patrons at another local restaurant that specialises in burgers, chicken and ribs and fancied trying somewhere different.We knew immediately that we'd come to the right place as we were greeted by Adrian and his team. Adrian went through everything in detail, explaining about his food and the cooking processes and then went through a comprehensive drinks list.Our party all went for a full 3 course menu experience and kinda regretted it in that the food was so plentiful that taking on dessert was quite a challenge.Between us we sampled a large cross section of the menu. I personally had the Smoke House Dog which contained two beautiful sausages (proper, butcher's sausages) smoked in house and covered in bbq pulled pork - and it was amazing. The side of Cowboy Beans was extremely tasty too.Adrian was on hand throughout the evening (without being intrusive), ensuring that everything was ok. The serving staff were very attentive too.Talking to Adrian it became apparent how well set up this operation is when it comes to dealing with food allergies and there is a high proportion of the menu (over 90%) that is gluten free. As everything is cooked fresh, it is no problem to tailor any dish to your individual needs.All in all, it was a great experience and I'm very glad that we've found Gallacher's and will be returning soon.

We went the last lunchtime in October and were encouraged that a few went in before us at noon when it opened Waitress v keen and staff dressed for Halloween Food ordered and soft drinks brought and then we waited and waited Other customers arrived and were served and when the man in a nearby table was given incorrect order we thought it best to go to greeting station to find out how long we would still have to wait snd were told they would find outNothing happened and we saw our waitress again and she asked and came back and said ribs take a long time to cook but just coming out nowOur meals arrivedMy companion said she asked for sweet potato fries with her ribs but skinny fries arrivedThe waitress said she had ordered the right thing and said she would get the right fries and took the skinny ones awayWhen she came back I advised her that perhaps my burger and chips had been left waiting on the side whilst ribs cooking as my fries spread out around my chicken burger were cold and covered in salt She said leave them snd she would brought moreThey arrived shortly afterwards and in a pot to keep warm snd no salt this timeVerdict Ribs my companion said chewy and fatty My chicken v greasy Dessert menu on mini blackboard v limitingIce creamVarious brownies Various cheesecakes Certainly they have reduced the main menu as no hot dogs as well as other things and v limited dessert menu I ordered a cappuccino and if only they could froth the milk and no chicken sprinkled on the topWaitress v inexperienced with iPad ordering Will we be backNO
