Once you park in front of the classic Art Deco style building with a huge EAT sign out front and another sign proclaiming Kumback Lunch is the oldest cafe in OK with the same name and location, you are in for a treat. I was the only car with out of state plates, but I was warmly greeted by the friendly staff and offered my choice of seating at a table, booth or counter. The menu has lots of choices along with a history of the restaurant and there is also a hand written sign board with daily specials and a list of the homemade pies available. I had the hot roast beef sandwich which was one of the daily specials and it was such a large serving I had to take a piece of peanutbutter chocolate pie back to my motel to eat later. The restaurant decor is like taking a step back in time-tin ceiling with neon lights around the perimeter and walls adorned with photos and memorabilia covering local and state history. I sat overlooking the Courthouse and Downtown Square. Afterwards I took a walk around the square and saw the Courthouse, Carnegie Library, and Sinclair Gas Station (all are on the National Register of Historic Places) as well as the Hopes and Dreams sculpture. This place is too good to miss so keep in mind it serves three meals daily Mon-Fri, has shorter hours on Saturday and is closed on Sun. I have enjoyed eating here whenever I am in Perry since I first read about it in Jane and Michael Stern's restaurant guide "Roadfood" several years ago and have never been disappointed.

2. Rise and Pies

When you walk in the door the smell of fresh bread makes your mouth start to water!There is an array of sour dough breads, cookies and pastries to choose from, all baked daily. Not to mention a wide selection of vinegar and olive oils to add to the goodness.I highly recommend the bakers at Rise And Pies. I have yet to try something I didn't like!

They make great omelettes and biscuits and gravy.There Chicken fried steak is very large and good! The appetizer onion rings will serve several people. This restaurant serves hungry people. They even have a 1 pound hamburger. There prices are very reasonable. This is a truck stop, but very popular with the locals.
