Went to Bill's in Newbury after an evening at the cinema. Nice atmosphere and friendly staff. We chose from the set menu and things started off ok. I had chicken and sesame dumplings which were quite nice but my partner's rosemary and butternut squash somewhat less so. The after an interminable wait our mains arrived. My partner had chosen sea bass (I'd had it before and it was rather good) but unfortunately the only hot thing about the dish was the plate! The food was barely warm. The same thing could be said about my minute steak. (The house white wine was, by the way. reasonable.) Both dishes were taken away and cooked again from fresh. The macaroni cheese which we'd ordered as a side dish was quite nice and hot but that was replaced also. The replacement arrived - eventually. The food was hotter (just) but this time the plates were cold. The sea bass which my partner had was undercooked and soggy. The macaroni cheese was also undercooked. My dish was ok but not great. We really should have rejected the food again but just wanted to get out. We ate what we wanted, declined a dessert and then waited forever for the bill. Fullsome apologies for the quality of the food but no offer of a discount. We'd both eaten at a Bill's before and it's usually pretty good (particularly the one in Bath) but this evening fell way short. Maybe they were having an 'off' night but I very much doubt if we'll be going back.

dreadful service, diabolical food and crazy prices. Place is filthy, windows covered in bird droppings, restaurant and bar full of flies and wasps, dread to think what the kitchen is like. staff have no idea on serving food or drinks. A complete disaster area, this place cannot and does not deserve to survive. Avoid going there. A real pity because the area needs somewhere that offers good service, good food, sensible prices and is clean.

Probably one of the best burger / pig out joint I have been to outside of the USA Staff were very friendly and tended to us straight away. The burger and the dirty chilli fries were superb.
