Jimmy Buffett would love this place. Big, juicy burgers with all the topping. However the fries were the bomb. Hand cut and cooked to perfection. They were awesome. Great place to meet locals. Lots of menu choices. Friendly staff. Kind of pricey but this is remote Alaska.

What a delectable treat on our way from Anchorage to Valdez. Tonsina River Lodge is located about 60 miles north of Valdez along the Richardson highway. The owners are Russian and they make and serve the most delicious, authentic homemade Russian food. There are several Russian as well as American food entrees on their menu and Russian appetizers to get started. They also have some Russian gifts for sale. We'll definitely make Tonsina lodge one of our dining stops in the future.

This restaurant is inside the Copper River Princess Wilderness Lodge.
The raw ingredients were great, but execution suffers. Why have fabulous fresh, crisp raw salad materials and slobber them with icky, over salted, sugary, pasty, appearing processed.... dressings? I had Caesar Salad, and it was like glue, with no anchovy or fresh garlic, and I wonder if it contained any parmesan cheese. And why would you ever overcook fantastic (I believe, fresh, Alaskan) salmon, when you specifically asked how they cook the salmon, to what degree of 'done-ness' and then specifically tell them to undercook the salmon, leaving it soft and pliable and almost raw (or OK to have it raw) in the middle/center?Breakfast the next morning was OK, but we ordered a la carte, while most of the cruise guests on their post- or pre-cruise land tours were digging into the buffet. Summer only staffing up here must be a challenge, as most of the staff we encountered was indifferent and lacked enthusiasm, except for the surfer dude (Long Beach, California, I think).
