Top 10 Wineries & Vineyards in Midi-Pyrénées, Occitanie

March 31, 2022 Jeremy Dunfee

Stretching from the wooded Dordogne to the towering peaks of the Pyrenees, this vast region is a popular winter sports destination, but one without the hordes that besiege the Alps. Spring's melted snows lure kayakers and rafting enthusiasts. In summer, amateur and advanced hikers take to the hills.

I often go to Château Chambert with family and friends when I am in the Lot area. We usually do the visit in the morning, their caves are majestic, and the guides are knowledgeable and very kind! We finish with the tasting in their beautiful "Bistrot" and have lunch on their terrace outside that offers an amazing view on the vineyards. A lovely experience that makes your day!!

Clos Triguedina Jean-Luc Baldes

Family-owned winery in France since 1830 : South-West region, Cahors AOP The new and modern Wine Pavillion is a unique place in the area to discover the vineyard and taste the wines

Reviewed By MAKLondon - Berkhamsted, United Kingdom

Driving up through the vines to Clos Triguedina in itself was exciting but then to arrive in the old farmyard where they have tastefully integrated a modern tasting room, we were full of anticipation. The tour starts with a tour of the vines surrounding the farmyard and particularly the old Malbec vines, and the on to the processing areas where, if you are lucky, you may get to see one of the extra touches that makes their premium wines something special. A small museum includes menus where their wines have been served to heads of state. On to the tasting with amazing homemade bread and snacks. Clos Triguedina manages to tread the fine line between the almost harsh and often tannic wines, that the Cahors region has always been known for, and the more modern fruitier more commercial wines that are growing in popularity. For me they have hit the balance just right. Whilst it was an experience to taste the premium Probus and the New Black wine, for my budget the mid range (for this vineyard) Clos Triguedina was the stand out wine. The commitment of the family can be felt in everything they do. The tour is simply not to be missed - but you can also just pop in for a quick taste.
