Have you ever experienced the feeling of coming to a new place and sensing something truly special about it? Nikolaihof emanates an extraordinary atmosphere, a unique aura. In Roman times, there was even a specific term for this: âgenius lociâ, or âspirit
We had the incredible honor of having our wedding reception at Nikolaihof. The whole planning process went super smooth thanks to the highly experienced staff in the back office. Everything was super transparent and we got friendly answers to our 1000 questions. The evening itself was absolutely magic. We were greeted in the lovely courtyard by the senior owner, Frau Saahs. She gave us a tour through the wine cellar and showed our guests the press. The whole winery is just so exceptional and stands out among the hundreds others in Austria. The food exceeded our expectations. I never had a better meal in my life and I don't say that just because it was my wedding day ;) They employ highly experienced staff, that create exceptional dishes, which satisfy meat eaters and vegetarians alike. We had one person with allergies and she was so well taken care of by the staff. All of them were so amazing. I liked the risotto the best but seriously, every dish was just so good. The wines are some of the best in the world and the whole ethics behind the winery is just mindblowing. The family-run business deserves all the praise, they are a bunch of very hard working people and the efforts totally show off as we had a simply fantastic evening with our friends and family. Can't wait to come back to enjoy the romantic atmosphere under the Linden-tree again!Thank you very much for your positive feedback and for taking the time to write this wonderful review. We are delighted to hear, that your wedding reception met all your expectations and that you had a good time at Nikolaihof Wachau. We very much appreciate your positive words and pass it on to our whole team.We wish you all the best and hope to see you again soon here at Nikolaihof Wachau!Kind regardsFamily Saahs & Team

This place has one of the most impressive terraces and views we have seen for a while. Overlooking vineyards and perfect view of the castle and churches of Dürnstein - just mind blowing. We stopped just for a drink and shared a cold platter which was big and for 10 eur amazing value. Service was friendly and food they carried around looked good. They open for breakfast too! We would definitely be back to try more!

very high prices for - at the best - medium quality wine, opens late (4pm!) and very noisy. The food is good but we have seen many better Heurigen in Austria!

You won't get warm dishes. But you will get a refined Heurigen fare at a very nice place. I know most of the Heurigen in the Mautern area. None of them ever disappointed me. So it is with this in mind I write about Heurigenkeller Graf. I have been there many times since 2010. Heuriger means the young wine from the preceding season. Its sale for consumption at the grower's place is regulated by law to protect ordinary restaurants from competition. A major restriction is that the wine is only allowed to be sold with cold food. So you will be usually offered cold meats, fish, cheese, vegetable plates, sandwiches, etc., and a variety of bread. In spite of the restriction there is ample room for variation. Another important restriction is that a Heuriger is not allowed to provide continuous service. That is, it has to be closed for a coiuple of periods per year. In contrast to the other Heurigen of the larger Mautern area Heurigenkeller Graf, while closed for certain periods, is open more often and for longer periods than the other Heurigen I know. So there is a reasonable good chance that it is open when you will be in the area. In summertime you can sit in the open on a terrace overlooking the Danube. In wintertime you are offered an indoors table. If you are lucky you will get one near the chimney. The place is run by a lady and her son. The service is as good as you can expect at such a place. While clearly more expensive than the other nearby Heurigen the dishes are still moderately priced and worth the extra expense. Parking is problematic. The entrance to Heurigenkeller is at a sharp left turn of the road for a car coming from Mautern. Don't try to stop there but go on for 50 m or so, there is a parking at the left side. If occupied, proceed for another 50 m over small bridge.to park your car.
Very worth visiting. Good service, wonderful wine, good food. Sitting in the garden on the vineyard, overlooking pictoresque hills. What else would you need when visiting Wachau?!
