Live music performed by our musician duo, hosted in a private Venetian villa over lunch and wine pairing! Our escape starts by visiting the pottery village of Margarites to explore the labyrinth of narrow alleyways and admire the ceramic works of the numerous shops in town. We then make our way to a ceramist to learn about the art of pottery and to make our own piece. Wine and music next with our friends and musicians Nelly and Dimitris as they open their home to us for a traditional Greek lunch paired with six Cretan wines from indigenous grapes. Our hosts will also treat us to some beautiful music. Dessert is reserved in a traditional taverna in the local village along with Cretan tsikoudia. The taverna contains the owner’s personal collection of folklore items that adorn every corner of the space.
Inclusions: Wine and food pairing (Full Lunch and Dessert), Six wines to taste, WiFi on board, Private music performance by the hosts in a Venetian villa, Sightseeing in the heart of Rethymno’s inland, Visit Margarites, a village famous for pottery, Private sommelier (Diploma Level) and professional commentary, Complimentary refreshments in the car

AMAZING EXPERIENCE! 2 friends and I came to Crete for 1st time and wanted to see the White Mountains as we were fascinated that such high mountains are on a Mediterranean island! Michalis promptly replied and was very nice and flexible for the organisation of a one-day trip to Pachnes, even though we made a very last minute request and contacted him barely 2 days before the trip! He picked us up from our flat in Chania in the morning in his nice 4x4, gave us extra water and windbreakers in case needed. Drive to mountain village Anopoli was great and then we had coffee at a beautiful taverna in the mountains along with sweet bread for breakfast. Fantastic 4x4 ride up a wild road to 1900m and then 2 hour hike to 2453m - absolutely amazing landscape! Michalis also gave walking sticks if needed, provided us with lots and lots of background info and on the summit prepared a nice picnic with fresh bread, homegrown tomatoes and traditional Cretan cheese and sausage, which was a beautiful experience! He also took amazing photos of us and landscape with his camera which we could then have and share with our friends and family! After getting down, we had tsikoudia and watermelon for free at the mountain taverna! Then he brought us all the way back to the flat and even gave us each a great little present - dried lavender and nice homemade soap made by his wife! Michalis is an amazing guide and true professional with a passion and love for his work and also great stories from his many ultratrail experiences! A pleasure to hike in his company and overall a magical, unique experience of Lefka Ori - the White Mountains! Fantastic hike!!!

Our starting point is the historical monastery of Arkadi, from here we walk over some plains and hills that offer us wide views and a glimpse of the sea. After that we arrive in the village Eleftherna, which we will actually cross. From there the trail takes us along various excavation sites that all belonged to the ancient city of Eleftherna. Many findings from here can be admired in the brandnew museum that is nearby. The final part of the route takes us over some ridges and through some green gullies and even through some ruins and abandoned villages. This last stretch, which is considered the best part, takes us into the village Margarites. Here you can enjoy many pottery shops, a refreshment and a stroll through small Venetian streets.

I travelled to Crete just to hike this mountain and all other tour companies refused to help me except for Creta Trekking! They went above and beyond to help me be able to summit this mountain before I left crete. I am beyond grateful for my tour guide he was hilarious, kind, and very well trained for these hikes and knowledge of the area. Saw a ton of mountain goats and had a delicious picnic at the summit. I will always remember this experience and very grateful for this tour company! I would recommend to anyone. I did it as a solo female travelled and felt completely safe and had an amazing experience. The tour guide picked me up from the bus stop and waited for my bus with me to return to my area of Crete. 100/10! Also need to mention the fresh local bread and goat cheese that was included in our picnic!

As you walk downhill, you will come across the church of St. Nikolas, built on the ruins of an ancient temple. Half way down the gorge lies the old village of Samaria; its few houses are now used by the park wardens. Quench your thirst with mountain water running from the gorge’s springs. Keep walking. At some point you will reach Pórtes (also called “Iron Gates”), the three narrowest passages of the gorge. The steep cliffs here tower as high as 500m above sea level. This route also goes past Venetian castles and ruins of prehistoric settlements as well as remnants of many other historical periods. As you are walking, you might feel as if someone else is watching you: the presence of the wild Cretan goats, known as “kri kri”, will definitely make this route particularly exciting!
Inclusions: Private transportation, Bottled water, Transport with the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter air-conditioned luxury minibus, Experianced driver

Our first stop will be to a picturesque "kafenio", to have a Greek coffee exactly as the locals do, with the traditional extra thin handmade cheese pie "sfakianopita" with thyme honey on top, the perfect way to begin your day. There is nobody, either Cretan or not, who is not going to visit the oldest "phyllo" workshop while in Rethymno and won't try his baklava! In the old town of Rethymno, a Venetian mansion houses the workshop of Mr Hatziparashos, the last traditional phyllo master, making traditional pastry. Just give it a try! Discover the narrow streets and stone-built old magnificent traditional houses in the alleys on our way to "mezedopolio''. One of the first of its kind in the city, learn how a local enjoys a homemade raki with the appropriate mezedes. Following stop, a stone-built bakery with the most crunchy, scrumptious loukoumades with honey, in the whole city! They will surely accompany you till the last stop at Fortezza castle as we will finish our gastronomic trip.
Inclusions: Snacks, Coffee and/or Tea, Bottled water, Raki, Breakfast
Exclusions: Ticket to the Fortezza, Extra charge if the pickup is not in Rethymno district
I took this trip with my mother on our visit to Crete and it really was a highlight. Our lovely guide Vincent was an excellent careful driver, and even though air con was an option we drove with the windows down so that we could smell the beautiful thyme/pine/herb-y mountain air of Crete. Margarites was wonderful, and Vincent was careful to make sure we arrived in between busloads of other tourists so we had the whole village to ourselves, and the demonstration was done in the best, most traditional pottery in town. We weren't keen on doing the whole gorge hike as we're not very athletic and wanted a chill day, so we stopped off at the Eleftherna museum in addition to everything else. The Arkadi Monastery was incredibly moving, and Vincent told us the history of the place before we went in, which made it all even more meaningful. He's a natural storyteller and makes everything so interesting and emotionally resonate - a really fantastic guide. Last, we did the gorge, including lunch in the most wonderful traditional taverna. You can also visit the little church in the gorge and, if you're spiritually minded, I recommend taking a little something as an offering - or, as we did, some change for the candles. The gorge was shady and full of streams, and we did a short hike that wasn't too taxing but did go fairly high up. I would thoroughly and wholeheartedly recommend taking this tour, and if we had had time to take more tours with this company we would do again. Being just us and the guide was a real luxury as well, as we could follow al our little whims and curiosities about the places we were in without having to rush. Eleven out of ten, what a great day!

Arkadi monastery is the most famous monastery on Crete and it’s a symbol not only of the island but of the entire Greece. During this time it played an important role since it was used as a shelter for more than 1000 people, most of them women and children. You can learn about the history of this place on its territory and, of course, see wonderful architecture that remained untouched. Eleftherna is an ancient city which flourished from Homer times to the very end of Byzantine Empire. It’s located in a very picturesque place - up the highest mountain of Crete, mount Ida. Excavations started here in the 80s and revealed great structures of the city. And the last place we’ll visit during our tour will be Margarites Village. Located in picturesque green rolling hills of the Rethymnon region, the village is well known for its pottery. The village, which has some extraordinary architecture and lovely narrow winding streets, is well worth exploring.

We got this tour as we like to travel on our own time schedule. To stop where we want and for how long as we want. Our tour guide Genadius was very thoughtful of bringing as beach mats and umbrellas. We never even though about them. He was very flexible, fun and reliable person. Always attending when you need him but giving you your personal space at the same time. He had great humour and told us many interesting facts about Greece. We spend whole day together and I didn't get tired of him even once.
