Amritsar is a major commercial and cultural centre in the heart of Punjab. The city is the spiritual and cultural center of the Sikh religion and is home to the Harmandir Sahib, also known as the Golden Temple. Respectfully marvel at the Indian and Pakistani soldiers who march-off nightly at the Wagha Border, and at the Jallian Wala Bagh the site of the 1919 Amritsar Massacre in 1919.

Great experience in the Golden Temple with Amritpal - he's incredibly knowledgeable about the temple, the Sikh and Amritsar itself. He's a very gifted storyteller so you'll be drinking his words. Also, he knows the Temple very well and will lead you through areas of it that you wouldn't dare to wander around without him. I learned loads from him and he made my stay in Amritsar memorable and special. Absolutely recommend this tour with him, you won't regret it!

We will meet at the entrance of Golden temple, after introductions and a little chit chat I will take you on a journey you will never forget. We will walk down the stairs into the main complex where our journey will begin. We will circle the Holy lake the traditional way, paying respects to different Gurudwaras along the way. Finally we will take the entrance hallway towards the Gurudwara situated in the centre of the holy lake, made of pure gold. After witnessing the heaven on earth, we will eat langar (Free community kitchen) which serves hot meals to more than 50,000 people a day. After finishing the meal, I will show you around the giant sized kitchen where these humongous meals are prepared. Then we will walk toward the entrance of the complex where after climbing up the stairs our adventure will end. Bidding farewell with face full of smiles and mind full of memories.

The Harmandir Sahib, also known as the Golden temple is simultaneously among the calmest and most bustling place of worship in India! The tour explores the different facets of this sacred keystone of Sikhism – such as Darshan inside the main shrine, a visit to the Langar (community kitchen) to volunteer along with the locals in preparing and serving food, sitting down in Pangat for a meal, and a visit to the Akal Takhat for understanding the martial aspect of Sikhism – all the while providing the underlying historical and cultural context. Join us to discover the Sikhi way of life in a fun and spiritual manner :)

I can hardly put into words the UNBELIEVABLY FANTASTIC experience we had with Roobaroo Walks in Amritsar. The coordinator Anupam was simply awesome in helping us get set up with our tours. Tours is really a paltry description of the activity as they were DEEP CULTURAL EXPERIENCES. We did three activities that really developed into four (this was the level of support we received from them)! Our guide Tarundeep Ji was an incredible man! After spending two days basking in his knowledge of the City, Sikh way of life, and deeply verse understanding of India/Pakistan history we were beyond thrilled. He was one those truly genuine people your rarely meet in your lifetime, and I believe my son and I have found a lifelong friend! Essential Amritsar Walk: We went through all the alley and byways and truly hidden gem sections of the center city Amritsar area. We saw amazing architecture, and Tarundeep gave a wonderful insight into the history and and influence of the different sections and buildings in the City. Of course we visited multiple Sikh temples along the way, and he knew every delicious local special dish and the best place to get them! DO NOT MISS THIS as the START of your adventure in Amritsar. Harmandir Sahib (Golden Temple): You cannot put into words what you will see here. It was one of the most stately, loving, peaceful, and generous places you will visit in India (I have been around a bit). The beauty cannot be appreciated with out actually seeing it. Look on line and you will see the pictures that plainly fall short of the spectacularness of the home of the Guru Granth Sahib. It is a living book and a living place. Tarundeep did a marvelous job of giving us just not the visual and historical facts. He gave us the spiritual essence of the most holy place for the Sikh community. You cannot help but be compelled to service when you get there. DO NOT MISS A CHANCE TO HELP IN THE COMMUNITY KITCHEN (service is reward, honor the spirit of the place)!!! Go in the evening as the beauty is almost hard for the mind to process! Take time to meditate in the heart of the temple and let yourself the absorb the 'life' of the temple. The guide will make sure you miss NOTHING, and you will walk away with a new piece of culture to meld with your own. Gatka - this we believe was the final closure of the Sikh experience we poured ourselves into. The trainers were extremely patient and did an excellent balance of demonstration and active participation. This IS DOABLE by everyone!! Do NOT be INTIMIDATED. A must try to really cement the concept of the duality of Sikhism. The spirit and the soldier. The service and the protector. The instructors open their hearts and actions to you, and the humble pride you will see is rarely matched in other cultures. I cannot recommend this enough as a true HIDDEN GEM activity!!! We also worked with Roobaroo to arrange trip to Wagah border, and for us our guide voluntarily supported us for this activity as well, and this was almost the perfect closure of the experience. We had some really excellent conversation and 'perspective' that Tarundeep provided on the nature of the ceremony and the historical context of the Partition. Note you should take the time between a couple of the tours (after essential Amritsar walk is a great chance) to visit the Partition Museum as you are right in the area. It is gives better perspective before going to Wagah Border Ceremony. I was given the name of Roobaroo (Amritsar) by Shoba George from The Extra Mile (adventure planning), and between her and the Coordinator Anupam at Roobaroo walks are visit of Amritsar went from 'seeing a cool place' to 'EXPERIENCING a cool place and coming away changed and more aware of the complexity of India'. You must use these folks, as they are spreading life experience and understanding, not simply tourism. What greater good can you get from traveling to a new place??!!

Start through the narrow bazaars of Amritsar, we will go to the main Bazaar Called Guru Bazaar, a market where you can find all the stuff related to Punjabi weddings, here we will stop by the shop of Itter (Essence) and will feel the fragrance of hand made perfumes and incense sticks. Walking through these lanes, we will reach the main road to the cloth market, where we will see the colorful attires of Punjab culture. The main costumes include Phulkari, Patiala Suit, for women and Kurta Pajama for men, which goes perfect with Punjabi Jutti, the traditional footwear for men and women. Talking about the souvenirs, we cannot forget the food of Amritsar, which is Papad, English poppadom according to your spice tolerance, low, mild, extreme or Amritsari level, yes we do love spicy food. Heading towards new markets we will visit Ram Bagh market, where we will find Aam Papad, dry mango pulp. With this, our tour for souvenirs comes to an end at Ram Bagh Gate.
