Known for its beer, sausages, Oktoberfest and lederhosen, Bavaria is Germany’s largest federal state and one of its most popular tourist destinations. It's also one of the most independent-minded regions. Home to cities like Munich (the capital) and Nuremberg, Bavaria is also cherished for its hilly countryside, where such gorgeous sites as Hohenschwangau Castle, Neuschwanstein Castle (the model for Sleeping Beauty’s Castle at Disneyland) and Linderhof and HerrenChiemsee Palaces can be found.

I absolutely loved my room. It was beautiful and spacious. I got a free upgrade. My room was decorated in a contemporary Style. I was able to see many of the other rooms. Each had a different type of decor but all were very nice and recently renovated. Caroline at the front desk was very helpful and friendly. The location is right outside the city wall. It takes about 10 minutes to walk to the Market Square. I thought the location was fine. You can get other hotels that are within the city walls but I don't think any have the recent renovations or the decor that this hotel has. I liked it so much I extended my stay.

Sabine and Johann are incredible hosts. Mayringerlehen is a working farm in a beautiful setting with very comfortable rooms. Each day when we would come back from exploring around Berchtesgadener Land I would just gaze out over the mountains and feel so lucky to be a guest in their home. Each morning Sabine served a delicious breakfast which included Johanns own homemade cheese! We had a car rental and drove ourselves around to explore but if you don’t have a car there is access to a bus that will take you to many of the attractions. If you are wanting to stay in an authentic Bavarian setting this is the place to stay. It was the highlight of our two week trip thanks to the hospitality of Sabine and Johann. I was sad to leave and hopefully one day we will be able to sit on our veranda and enjoy the peaceful tranquility of Ramsau.

Alles was man braucht ist vorhanden.

Extremely friendly staff and the restaurant serves very good food with generous portions. The rooms were spotless and the beds were comfortable. We had no complaints at all. All told, this is a great little place to stay. PS-- it is right next to the S-bahn station.

The Gutsalm is relatively easy to find if you are travelling to Bodenmais and following the signs. It is a little bit hills up and might be challenging during winter time to get there. But in April it wasn't an issue. Around the Gutsalm there is "nothing" except for nature, a really quiet place. It isn't a problem to park your car on an outside car park. The check in and check out worked quickly and friendly. We stayed in one of the "Wiesenhüttnhäusschen" which are a small walk (2-3 minutes) from the reception and restaurant building. They are for max. 4 people and really cute. Everything is made out of wood and the view was stunning (especially from the balcony). Ours had two rooms with a double bed in both of them and a tiny kitchen (including a fridge). It was clean, the beds were really comfortable and we enjoyed staying there. The meals in the restaurant were really fantastic and the staff was really willing to go the extra mile if you have some dietary limitations, e.g. vegan. I stayed there for a sports weekend so except for the sports classes I didn't see much but there seemed to be nice hiking tracks around. You could also use a hot tube outside (additional fee) if you'd like to do that. The only negative things I could see (which are really not that important) are that the Wifi was pretty slow so don't try watching any kind of videos ;-) and another pan, we only had one cooking pot would have been nice. But I would certainly recommend to stay there for a relaxing time!

This is a lovely family run hotel in an idyllic setting .The welcome is always warm and it is a perfect place to relax . Gorgeous rooms .Spacious and very well appointed . Nice garden and indoor pool with a splendid traditional restaurant to finish he day .Excellent breakfast with a view of the lake and mountains as you eat . The hotel has a grassy area nearby where you can swim or sunbathe by the lake .A good foot and cycle path follows the lake also It's strength is in managing old and new .Fascinating history in a lovely old building with all the modern facilities .The family work so hard to ensure a good stay. The surrounding countryside is beautiful and the lake stunning . The boats leave for the two islands a short drive away at Gstadt There is a good day car park at the top of the village .2 euros a day ..The lake trips are around 6 to 10 euros return depending on the island visited . Boats are frequent and journeys short .Both need to be explored . The Royal Palace of Herrenchiemsee is astonishing . The monastery there also has a superb collection of paintings by Julius Exter .A must for art lovers . There is a very good restaurant adjoining the monastery entrance . Tasty food and terrific views of the Lake . Arriving back to the hotel after the visits is a delight . Roger and Sara Mitchell

Disclaimer: this review is about the restaurant at the premises, not the accommodation part of the hotel. The looks of the nicely renovated old building are good, though some of the decorations did not match the rustical style so nicely. The problem just is that the ceiling is quite low and there are hard stone surfaces all over, so even a small discussion gets really loud and you actually cannot hear what a person at the other end of the table is saying. The waiting staff seemed to lack the drive to serve and sell food and drinks. While waiting our food they could've easily sold at least a drink more to everyone, but no-one bothered to come and check if the glasses were empty. "At least" as it took over an hour to get the food after ordering, even though the restaurant was seemingly only half occupied. And when the food started to arrive, all dishes didn't come at the same time time, but within a longer period of time. Alternatives were to wait and get the food cold or start eating while the others still waited hungrily. The portion was really large, but from the quality point of view not really worth the money. All in all, a nice location, but service and food need some work to make it worth visiting here.
