California is a fertile, peaceful place where you’ll find a near-equal balance of vineyards and deserts, beaches and mountains, hippies and traditionalists. Catch an epic wave in Big Sur or swirl a glass in Napa Valley. Be dazzled by the Joshua Tree night sky or just star-gaze in Hollywood. Swish down the slopes of a Tahoe ski resort, or cruise across the Golden Gate Bridge with the top down and the music blasting. Above all, don’t forget to soak up some Golden State sunshine.

A concentration of high-quality wineries north of San Francisco.
We drove from Santa Rosa to Philo... Amazing scenery and a tremendous twisting drive. There are many wonderful wineries and quaint towns along the route... do yourself a favor and sample some amazing pinots.

One of the prime wine producing regions in California. A visit to Sonoma Valley yields an outstanding array of food, lodging and scenery.
We went to Sonoma Valley. This is a wonderful area to explore. There are lots of cute communities such as Petaluma, Santa Rosa, Windsor, Sonoma, Healdsburg. There are lots of great parks including Armstrong Redwoods State Park, We went again in July and enjoyed a Fourth of July lunch, wine tasting, exploring the country side, and then later visited with friends.

A good hiking and backpacking area.
Don't go here expecting to day hike. Everything is long and steep, requiring 4 days minimum to really enjoy, and it's all at elevation, requiring further time car camping or renting lodging near the trailheads to acclimatize for most people. It's also a long, tedious drive on a winding, narow, steep road to get there at all. That said, if you have the better part of a week and the stamina to hike 30 miles and gain 9100' minimum, you'll have relative solitude and views you won't forget.

The Swanson philosophy celebrates decadence with a wink -- the mixing of the high with the low. Caviar on a potato chip? We think so! At our winery, we offer out-of-the-ordinary experiences that elevate the everyday. Our inviting Salon offers an intimate wine and food experience, guided by our Salonniere who will walk and talk you through each of your pairings. Or, stop into our whimsical Sip Shoppe for tasting of our current releases. We invite you to come, taste and enjoy.
My wife and I were in Napa for our 1st visit to the area. We had a “non-winery” day and had had Swanson Merlot back home and decided to stop by for an impromptu visit. So glad we did! Nancy was so welcoming and friendly! Very small winery, with a great history (remember your favorite TV dinner:). We sat outside in the courtyard and enjoyed some red wine. Their wines are delicious and extremely affordable. Don’t always need to open a bottle of $100 wines. These wines taste amazing and you can easily open them up to enjoy with a burger. Their wine club is extremely great value! Nancy thanks for your hospitality. Glad we pulled over and paid you a visit Cheers! Kevin and Sue Larson

The Ojai Valley Land Conservancy is a community-based non-profit organization working with partners to permanently protect the open space, natural scenic beauty, wildlife, habitat, and watershed of the Ojai Valley for current and future generations. Your donation supports the protection of open space in the Ojai Valley.
This amazing non-profit buys up vacant tracts of land in the Ojai Valley watershed to preserve it, restore it to a native and natural condition, and provide outdoor recreational activities such as hiking, equestrian trails, and mountain biking for both locals and visitors. Many of their trails are accessible just a short walk from downtown while others you can access with just a few minutes of driving to their trailheads. The OVLC properties encompass every type of local terrain from river bottom and heavy woods to steep climbs and incredible views. OVLC also sponsors many interpretive nature walks and talks and hosts one of the premier Ojai Valley events of the year (in September) in the Telluride Film Festival west. Check out the ovlc.org website for trail maps and complete info as well as how to become a member.
