Royal Windsor Information Centre

Tourist information centres come in many shapes, sizes, locations and formats, but not many are the former booking hall of a Royal railway station. Nor do many tourist information office staff serve their customers through ticket office windows. Add in comfy sofas to sit on while you look at leaflets and discuss plans, maybe with a coffee and a cake from the next door coffee shop, and you have the ingredients for the perfect customer experience.

Bodleian Library

The world-famous Bodleian Libraries is a must-see cultural destination in the heart of Oxford. It founded by Sir Thomas Bodley and officially opened in 1602. Since then the Bodleian libraries has grown to be the largest academic library system in the UK. In its reading rooms generations of famous scholars have studied through the ages, amongst them monarchs, Nobel Prize winners, British Prime Ministers and writers including Oscar Wilde, C.S. Lewis and J.R.R. Tolkien. At the site, you can explore historic spaces that you might recognise from popular films and TV series such as Harry Potter and A Discovery of Witches. We also offer free, inspiring exhibitions featuring the libraries’ rich collections, two unique gift shops and a lovely café.

This was a wonderful way to experience the library! We took the 90 minute tour which including going inside Radcliff Camera, highly recommend!! Our guide was very knowledgeable and she was witty as week. We thoroughly enjoyed it and learned so much more than we would have without the tour.

Radcliffe Camera

This distinctive circular building is a beautiful piece of classical architecture and one of Oxford’s most iconic sights. It's named after the royal physician, John Radcliffe, who had left money in his will to purchase land, build a library, purchase books, and pay a full-time librarian. The camera (the word means simply ‘room’) was built 1737 – 1749 and designed by the leading architect James Gibbs.

One of Oxford’s most photographed landmarks, the Radcliffe Camera. The neo-classical 17th-century gem is part of the Bodleian Library and acts as an exquisite centrepiece to the golden-hued heart of Oxford.⁣ Come early in the morning for golden light and excellent photo opportunities.

I booked this tour for my Husband and I having recently been to Chernobyl, which sparked a general interest in nuclear power, and we wanted to see a working nuclear power plant. We were not disappointed. Our guides were Sarah and Helen, who were very knowledgeable, friendly and enthusiastic, and answered any questions in a non-patronising way. The tour was very well run, security was tight, which is understandable, and the rules were the same as at Chernobyl, that is, you must be completely covered up, bring your passport, any forms must be completed accurately, and do as you are told. I am so glad we did this tour as it was really interesting. I wish we had arrived earlier so we could have taken more time in the Visitor Centre which was also informative and well presented. We were lucky enough to see the top of the reactor, and the training room which is an exact copy of the Control Room used to train people before they are allowed to do it for real. A really enjoyable afternoon.

Shepherd Neame Visitor Centre & Brewery Tour

Take a look behind the scenes at Shepherd Neame – Britain’s oldest brewer. You guide will take you through the heart of the brewery so you can see the traditional mash tuns; taste natural mineral water from the brewery’s well; try some malted barley; smell locally-grown Kentish hops; see bygone delivery vehicles and step into a recreated cooper’s workshop. Finally there’s a fascinating tutored tasting of Shepherd Neame’s Kentish ales and speciality lagers. Tours run most days - advance booking is strongly recommended and you should allow 2 hours for your visit

They don't build them like this anymore. The scale of the place is epic and the audio guide is excellent when you tour the various rooms. There is so much to see that we converted out ticket into an annual pass. Will be back to see what we missed on our first visit.

Rye Heritage Centre

The perfect start to your visit to Rye! The Rye Heritage Centre is the home of the 'Story of Rye' Town Model Sound and Light show, a handmade scale model of Victorian Rye that plays a show that takes you through 700 years of Rye's history. Historic Audio Walking Tours are available for hire, with guided ghost tours available on selected dates during the winter months. The Heritage Centre is also host to a fantastic working collection of Old Pier Penny Arcade amusement machines, and has a wide variety of books and maps on Rye and the surrounding area, as well as exclusive locally made pottery and souvenirs in the gift shop.

This is the best ghost walk I've ever had. It's only £10 per person and takes about 2.5h-3h. It was a horrible weather when we did this but as it was so interesting we stayed till the end. Includes a lot of history of Rye too. Recommend to book it well in advance.
