Went up on the Bahn to the top of Gruenberg right from Gmunden. Huge hiking area with many different levels of difficulty, Lovely views, great restaurant on top as well as a summer Rodelbahn, great fun for the whole family and a new observation deck and walk on “top of the trees”. Careful though to not spend all your money trying out all the exciting sights (there is a combination ticket for the gondola and the top of the trees walk.)

Since 1959, Katrin cable car has brought a range of visitors to the summit. Enjoy a charming 15-minute drive to more than 1,400 m above sea level with spectacular views! There are NUMEROUS PANORAMA ROUTES on mount Katrin. The network of the circular walk extends from lovely Feuer- and Rosenkogerl westwards to the imperial Katrin summit and further to the beautiful Elferkogel, followed by the romantic Hainzen and the mighty Rosskopf - always accompanied by the impressive mountain scenery of the Salzkammergut that will inspire you. Multi-generation VIA FERRATA: Apart from fun and action for those who want to be active, the promising fixed rope route (suitable for families) offers a fabulous view of the most beautiful lakes of the Salzkammergut region. As highlight, the ascent ends at the majestic cross on the summit of Mount Katrin.
We caught the cable car to the top of Katrin. 50€ for a family of 4 return with the ‘winter card’ (free from hotel as we are staying in Bad Ischl for more than 3 days). There was SO much snow, we were there for about 4 hours playing in the snow, there are 2 restaurants. The restaurant at the top loans sleds which our 6 and 7 year olds loved. There are hiking paths if you like hiking in the snow. The cable cars leave continuously. We caught a cab from our hotel as we were in all our snow gear was 10€ each way, no Uber in Bad Ischl. Had a fantastic day!
