While planning our trip to Japan, we also wanted to see some of the countryside outside of the big cities. The Shinhotaka Ropeway is a funicular ride to a observation point featuring beautiful snow covered mountains called the Japanese Alps, about 105 minutes from Takayama city. We were staying in a lovely ryokan called Kazeya so for us it was a 15 minute bus ride. The ticket from Takayama will cost around 2300 yen and the cable car to the top another 2700 yen but its a experience well worthwhile. If you combine a stay in a local ryokan you will also enjoy a wonderful Onsen spa.

Spring is an azalea. Summer is a red dragonfly. Autumn turns red. Winter is rime on trees and an icefall. You can enjoy yourself in four seasons.
Went on a sunny Sunday. Crowded with a lot of locals visiting for the autumn viewing of the maple trees. Long queue about an hour to purchase the ticket and join another queue for the ropeway ride. However I followed the wrong crowd went to a boring museum thinking there might be another leg, in the end was just one way up and I missed the exit to the station missing the magnificent view up the mountain. Went down the bottom platform to take photos the view was not bad as well. Very expensive trip due to my own mistake.

The top of the hill provides you with a wonderful 360 degree view of the ten regions including Mt. Fuji, Sagami Gulf and nearby peninsulas. Tokyo Sky Tree could be seen when the weather is clear.

Extinct for 4,000years,the once-volcanic Omuro(pronounced”oh-muro”)is a must on your visit to ito The chair lift takes you swiftly up to the summit, where views are far and wide…probably the finest panorama in this locality
Beautiful views, I can see why it is protected. Very accomodating staffs as well, who would slow down or stop the lifts completely for the disabled (had some elderly in wheechair). I took that time to admire the coast. A nice 20 minutes walk (with slopes and stairs) around the mountain for a panoramic view. They sold dango at the top as well, I had the mitarashi and shoyu flavour. Fresh off the grill, and perfect for the weather. Toilet on top of the mountain is more pleasant than below by the souvenir store, haha.

Tenryu Hamanako Railway is a local railroad which runs to Shinjohara from Kakegawa in Shizuoka-Prefecture. The whole line is registered tangible cultural properties of the country. Does it come out calmly, and isn't traveled and cured by tenhamasen leisurely?
