The largest ropeway in Kyushu with a maximun riding capacity of 101 passengers ! I will guide you through the 10 minute journey to Tsurumi Sanjo Station situated at 1,300 maters above sea level. Standing 1,375m high, Mt.Tsurumi is located at the east edge of Aso-Kuju National Park. Mt.Tsurumi is an active volcano with fumarole activity still occurring in the backside, and is the source of Beppu Hot Spring. The top of Mt.Tsurumi offers a beautiful view of the Beppu Area, Mt. Yufu, the Kuju Moutains, and the Shikoku Regions.
We went up there with our baby in a carrier. It was 0 degree Celsius so it was slightly cold. However, we walked up to the top of the mountain so it was not hot at all. It’s worth our time.

Kamenoi Bus is the easiest way to get around Beppu if you are going beyond Beppu's central area east of the train station. Buses depart from both the east and west entrances to the Beppu Train Station. I find it best to use Google Maps or some other online map to see which routes to take, as often there is more than one way to get to another area of Beppu, for instance, Kan'nawa, and some routes are longer and slower than others. Kamenoi Bus also has rapid express buses to Fukuoka and Fukuoka Airport that leave from Highway 10, a 7-minute walk from the east entrance to Beppu Station. The rapid express buses require reservations; the local Beppu buses do not. Last used 8 December 2018.

We travelled overnight from Beppu to Osaka and loved the experience. Ferry departs at around 7pm and docks around 6.30am. We had a deluxe cabin, which was at least twice the size of the hotel we stayed in at Beppu. Very clean and spacious with private ensuite. Robes and slippers provided. Restaurant, convenience store and vending machines available onboard, although can be expensive. I would reccomend the deluxe cabin and will travel using this ferry service again in the future.
