Top 10 Transportation in Norfolk, England

February 28, 2022 Leida Jutras

A holiday in Norfolk is not a glamorous break. While the Norfolk Broads of East Anglia are a beautiful part of the UK, they represent a relaxing rural getaway rather than a high-powered city-break. Although its reputation is mostly rural, with people associating the county mostly with the wetlands of the Norfolk Broads, there are also towns such as Norwich and King's Lynn to visit, both of which provide shopping opportunities, nightlife and entertainment. Norfolk also contains a large stretch of coastline, and seaside destinations such as Cromer and Great Yearmouth mean there are great beaches to be found as well. Many areas of the Norfolk Broads and the coastal region are sites of outstanding natural beauty, and are also protected as bird reserves, so take a pair of binoculars on holiday. There are also popular wildlife attractions such as Banham Zoo, with a great collection of big cats, and Great Yarmouth's Sea Life Centre, one of the biggest of its kind in the country, complete with tropical sharks and conger eels. And of course, if any of your family are interested in boating, you'll need to rent a boat and explore the waterways of the Broads themselves!

We have just returned from a long August weekend in Titchwell Norfolk and I just have to say how wonderful Wheel Travel has been. Lisa and Joanne have gone out out their way to make sure we have the correct bikes for our heights (me, my husband and my 10 yr old son), provided us with a detailed map and a recommended route. The bikes came with panniers (to carry all your bits and bobs plus shopping), locks, keys and puncture kits. The service is prompt, efficient and extremely friendly and helpful. I truly do not think one can do better if you are looking for a bike hire in Norfolk that combines this level of service with great prices. Great job Lisa and Joanne!

Pull's Ferry

Now a private house, the watergate at Pull’s Ferry was once home of John Pull, who was the ferryman here. The arched watergate actually dates from medieval times, but the adjoining house is of a later date. Although effectively within the city centre, this is a beautiful, peaceful spot and with the colour and shape of the riverside house and the verdant trees, it’s like something from a Constable painting. Absolutely delightful.

Wells Harbour Railway

Reviewed By lynnsC4164GI - Lincoln, United Kingdom

not sure why anyone would worry about covid arrangements on an open sided train but the £1.50 far each way is well worth the money especially as parking in the town is about £4. A lovely attraction and it is essential that you wave at everyone on the sea bank as you travel up and down the about 1 mile track.

Wymondham Historic Railway Station

A wonderful, multi award-winning station opened in 1845 and a floral delight, still served by regular mainline trains on the Norwich to Cambridge line. Winner of National Rail Awards 'Small Station of the Year' 2006. Home of the Brief Encounter Restaurant and Coffee Shop famed for it's home-cooked lunches and afternoon teas and voted one of the UK's Top Ten Station Eateries in 2009.

The station at Wymondham is primarily served by Greater Anglia trains running between Norwich and Cambridge and Stansted airport. There are also a few East Midlands Railway service between Norwich and Nottingham. The station building is quite impressive and in keeping with the surroundings. When I visited the Station Bistro was open for people to eat in and also for takeaways. There were no waiting rooms although there are large canopies over the platform to shelter from the rain.
