First formed by the volcanic activities of 13 million years ago, a long time of 2 million years had created such a rare and beautiful geography.Kanakei Gorge, considered one of the three most beautiful valleys in Japan, is boast of world famous scenic beauty of unique shaped rock cliffs decorated with colorful trees. You can feel the breathtaking nature full of thrills and dynamism by the 5 minutes Ropeway ride with the height difference of 317m, and the total length of 917m. Visitors can also enjoy the different views depending on the season. Feel tender green of new leaves in spring, fresh green in summer, red and yellow leaves in autumn, and quiet valley, sometimes with snow in winter.
Rented a car from Orix Car Rental which is a short walk from Tonosho Port (came from Okayama New Port) Arrived at the ropeway at 11am. Managed to get on to the ropeway before a tour group did so it took us less than 10 mins in line. Autumn colours were in their peak and it was gorgeous the entire way up to the summit station. There were several viewing spots and souvenir shops on the summit. Spent about 45 mins up there before taking the doorway down again. There was a long line when we disembarked and it looked like a hour wait at least. So go early and hopefully there's no tour group in line with you!

We arrived in Takamatsu by bus from Matsuyama, and went straight from the bus station to the ferry, an easy walk. We did go up via escalator onto a walkway to make it across the major road, and then down again at the ferry dock at the port. There are signs. This was the schedule that was available in April 2018. We went to Naoshima, and it was a very comfortable ride. We had heavy suitcases, and it was good to be able to go up to the guest level on the elevator. Just ask. There were quite a few using the elevator - Moms with strollers and a person on crutches. It is smart to have a return ticket, just to make sure you will make the last boat if you are staying for the day. Fun trip! Beautiful view on sunny days. Mystical view on rainy ones.

This is a great way to see the surrounding towns and villages near Takamatsu as there are actually three tracks - this one which goes to Kotahira and the famous Konpira-san temple, one that heads west and another which heads east along the coast. You can get a two day ticket for unlimited rides on the whole Kotoden Electric network and its well worth it. I just rode to different stations got off and explored. The eastern track takes you to some beautiful shrines and temples as well as coastal villages. The Kotahira track takes you to Konpira-san so you will probably just sleep on it on the way back after climbing all those stairs up the mountain :-)
