This tour lets you experience the beauty of the hidden Iya Valley at first hand through the magic of the Brompton bicycle. After meeting in Awa-Ikeda, take the train to Oboke Station. While waiting for the bus at Oboke Station, check out the interesting shops. Then take a bus to the Iya Valley vine bridge. Near the vine bridge, you can see the beautiful Biwa Waterfall and go down to the Iya River. From there, ride on the old road along the valley beside the emerald green Iya River. The beauty and grandeur of the ever-changing valley makes you forget your everyday life. Points of interest include the Hi no Ji Bend, and the Peeing Boy standing on a 200 m-high precipice. The Iya Valley road runs gently downhill for most of the way, so no special physical prowess is required. The rest area has a fine view, perfect for Instagram. Enjoy the charm of the Iya Valley which can’t be experienced fully by car.

This tour takes you along the Yoshino River to the historic town of Wakimachi. The starting point is ADLIV, an old printing factory remodeled as a shared work and community space. It follows the road on the embankment where cars are prohibited, and you can experience the history and culture that developed around the Yoshino River. Mainakajima on the other side of the river from Wakimachi Udatsu Street was often flooded in the past, but at the same time it produced large amounts of indigo which contributed to the wealth of the area. Crossing a submersible bridge over the Yoshino River, you enter a street of prosperous merchant houses ornamented with udatsu. Here there are satellite offices and fashionable cafes that still retain the atmosphere of old days. You have a break from cycling at Wataru Coffee (drink included in the price). Emerging from the udatsu street, you encounter the Showa period Odeon Theatre. After the tour, you may want to slake your thirst at the café in ADLIV.

On this tour, you cycle around the Ikeda Reservoir formed in the middle of the Yoshino River. The town of Ikeda, known as “the navel of Shikoku” has always prospered as a center of trade. After cycling through the retro shopping street, you come to a row of old merchant houses with ornamental ‘udatsu’ firewalls. A slight rise brings you to the Yoshino River, which has the largest flow of Japan’s rivers. The deep reservoir and the man-made structures create a beautiful contrast. This tour takes you through a historic town, along the magnificent Yoshino River, with a thrilling wire suspension bridge and a pretty submersible bridge. The route takes you along the Median Tectonic Line, one of the world’s biggest faults. If the surface of the water is calm, the reservoir becomes a huge mirror.

Wow! Our group of 4 adults and 3 teenagers had the most fabulous day with Takashi-san, Miwa-san and Hajime-san cycling through the Iya Valley on Brompton Bicycles. We had such fun with our lovely guides who thought of every detail and made sure we saw the most beautiful spots throughout the day. I recommend this tour so highly. It is a day we will remember fondly forever. Thank you so much, Takashi-san, Miwa-san and Hajime-san!

The flexibility to chose locations that suited our wants and abilities was great. Hiro San was very quick to put together an itinerary that accommodated a family with a stroller-baby (no monkey park due to long unpacked walking paths). Taking in the beautiful temples and view of the Kyoto from the west was breath taking and the guide was able to explain many things we as new Japanese learners could not read or know through cultural knowledge. Overall a great experience, a wonderful and lively guide, and some great memories.
This tour follows the path of Japan’s purest river, the Anabuki. In the summertime, many people head to the lower reaches of the river to camp, but this cycling course on the upper reaches avoids the crowds. This is a tour for adults to enjoy the quiet and beautiful Anabuki River at a relaxed pace. It’s a very easy ride — the bus takes you up the river, and you only have to pedal downhill. Along the way, you can take a break at a shrine with a mysterious atmosphere, cross a submersible bridge, go down to the riverbank and play in the water, and let the guide show you various places according to your mood. When you return to the town of Anabuki, you can stop by a stylish café that offers tea and cake made from local ingredients. It’s also possible to arrange a half day tour by reducing the distance.

A course that runs in Kamiyama, a well-known advanced area of satellite offices. A new way of working in rural areas that is attracting attention in the city. Centered on the Goku River that runs through the town, you can still live in a mountainous area rich in nature, and run through the lively streets of migrants. Farmers who stop by on the way are also married couples who have moved, and can be treated at the eaves as if they were relatives. In addition, tours to meet attractive people, such as LICHT LICHT, a shoe store that offers outstanding custom-made shoes with excellent compatibility with Brompton! Although the course is in a mountainous area, there are not so many difficult slopes, so even those who are not used to cycling can run without problems. Michi no Eki / Onsen no Sato Kamiyama is a good base for a break.
