July 3, 2021 Leonarda Pillsbury

Sokcho (속초; (Korean pronunciation: [sok̚.tɕʰo])) is a city in Gangwon-do province, South Korea. It is located in the far northeast of Gangwon-do. Lying north of the 38th parallel, the city belonged to North Korea from 1945 until the end of the Korean War, when the dividing line between the two Korean states was officially altered. Abai Maeul was originally set up as an area to house North Korean refugees in Sokcho due to the separation of the two Koreas. Consequently, many of the population have relatives in North Korea. Today, Sokcho receives a number of tourists attracted by the closeness to the DMZ. The city is also a well-known gateway to nearby Seoraksan national park.

My group of six friends chose Top Korea for a private tour of Seoul. It was a day before their lunar New Year. At first, we didn’t know what to expect whether most of the places we want to see will be closed. But with our pleasant surprise, Miae of TK showed us around from seeing the Changing of the Guards still being celebrated in their Royal Palace to their traditional street market, the beautiful Hanok village and Jogyesa temple to the modern structure, Dongdamun Design Plaza. She took us to a great Korean BBQ for lunch that we enjoyed so much. Miae is a very personable and knowledgeable guide. She made our tour easy and comfortable-not rushed at all, giving us time to take it all in and have lots of photos. We felt like she’s more of a friend showing us around the city. I learned so much about the beautiful city, it’s culture and history and people in one day. I can’t wait to visit the city again and see other areas like Busan and Jeju island. I highly recommend Top Korea when you visit Seoul!

Great quick survey trip of Easter Korea giving some highlights. Best stop was Hahoe folk village... beautiful. Long road trip but interesting scenery and stops. Justin Choi was great as guide with humor and good history knowledge. Could have skipped Pyeonchang Olympic site as nothing's there anymore and spend more time at Mt Seoraksan or other location. Good for first timer visit.

In order to visit all the beautiful and historical cities outside of Seoul, we knew we need to join a bus tour and after reviewing all the tours out there, we booked K-Shuttle. Our group was a fun and punctual group of people, so with all the long ride going to one city to another, it wasn’t that bad. All the places we go to were places that all the locals will go for their getaway too, so it was nice to see that not everything are made for foreign tourists. Our guide, Cooper, was very helpful and informative, he brought his binder that filled with printed pictures of what is necessary for us to know about his lovely country, South Korea and also the places that we will visit. I would recommend K-Shuttle for sure to my friends back home.

What a great guide Bergen is! He is enthusiastic, friendly, knowledgeable and fun to be with. Bergen showed me everything that I wanted to see, introduced me to delicious Ginseng Chicken soup, strong ginger tea and still more exotic foods at the market. He was willing to adjust the itinerary so that I could see the Spirit Shrine of the Joseon kings and even found me a shop selling high quality celadon ceramics. I couldn’t recommend Bergen more highly.
