The province of Ogliastra (Italian: provincia dell'Ogliastra [proˈvintʃa delloʎˈʎastra], Sardinian: provìntzia de s'Ogiastra) was a province in eastern Sardinia, Italy. Ogliastra was the most mountainous province in Sardinia. With only some 57,642 inhabitants, it was also the least populous province of Italy. The province had a population density of 31.08 inhabitants per square kilometer and the president of the province was Bruno Pilia. It corresponded roughly to the medieval Giudicato of Agugliastra. The province of Ogliastra contained 23 comuni (plural; singular: comune), see the list of communes of the Province of Ogliastra.

The guide ensures the trip is safe, fun, and the participants learn a little bit about the area.

This trekking on foot, with donkeys carrying your stuff, offers you in the middle of unspoiled nature, the most authentic Sardinia: forests of green oaks, thick Mediterranean vegetation, rivers and sources of pure water among the highest mountains from Sardinia. We meet wild boars, deer and the typical Sardinian fauna. With a little luck, we will see in the distance mouflons, horses and birds of prey. It will also be an opportunity to get in touch with shepherds and the inhabitants of these small villages. The Sardinian donkey is patient, indefatigable, it is the animal of the shepherds par excellence and perfectly adapted to our trekking for the transport of luggage. In general, we will have a donkey for two.

We will begin to walk uphill along the coast, towards Sa Perda Stampada, a rock with a hole through which it is possible to admire the Coccorrocci beach; we will continue going down towards Foxi Manna, passing by the rock Su Brecconi and Cala Niedda. We will then visit the Nuraghe Aleri, a tholos nuraghe, built between 1500 and 1200 BC, which has an irregular five-lobed shape. After a break for lunch we will set off again, going up the south-western side of Punta Cartucceddu towards the Piscine di Monte Ferru, beautiful natural ponds carved by the erosion of the stream in the red porphyry rock. We will take a little break to freshen up before returning to the starting point.

December 2019 We have just had 3 days with Gianfranco and cannot recommend his guiding abilities too strongly. First day was an historical tour of Tortoli & Arbatax but outside the towns up on the hills finishing at the port in Arbatax. From prehistoric to WW2 in one day was absolutely fascinating. Day 2 was a 13 km walk some bits tougher than others but always amazing views. Day 3 was on the highest mountains to look at the lakes and villages topped off by a wine tasting at a very small producer of super Cannonau wine. On all 3 days Gianfranco’s enthusiasm and extensive knowledge kept us going from historical & geological to botanical & gastronomical all supplemented by vignettes of good conversation but without becoming too much. Plus the picnic stops are in just the right places! We had already booked our accommodation elsewhere but having met Juliet too I can imagine they are fantastic hosts. Please use Go Comida and I’m sure you won’t be disappointed. September 2020 Back in Tortolì we have just used Gianfranco again for two walks. The standard of guiding, information and general conversation is still excellent. The day can be as hard or relaxing as you like so don’t think you’ve got to be super fit, Gianfranco will tune the day to your wishes and capabilities. Oh, and there’s even good coffee made on his gas stove at lunchtime! Again, can’t recommend Go Comida enough.

These place are really unique in Sardinia, probably the best coast with stunning sceneries, incredible clear waters, and the possibility to make the tour on board a special sailboat, equipped with alla comforts including air conditioning, large swimming platform, large Bimini for shadow, a fridge and a freezer, a new dinghy with a powerful 15hp outboard. Plus, we have been sailing these seas for ten years now and know all their secrets...

First, the boat (the Blue Magic) is very comfortable. You can find on this boat of 49 feet everything you need. We had the biggest room with my wife, my sons (9 et 5 years old) were in a smallest one together but sufficient. Then Bobo, the skipper : very nice with all of us, very funny too. He's a very good skipper, very safe. No one had seasickness on board and i'm sure Bobo was the key with very sweet navigations every day. Giusy, Bobo's wife, took care of us every single minute of the cruise with so much kindness and sweet attentions. She's a very good diver and if something has to be observed under the see, she sees it at each time ! So impressive. She's a very good cooker, her coffee Moka is delicious obviously with a dozen of Molinetti cookies ;-) The cruise took us from Santa Maria Navarrese and Ogliastra to the North of Magdalena archipel and then we came back to Olbia. Very nice trip, just one day off nav because ok thunderstorms. So much marvelous sites, calas, snorkel spots, and fun. We've lived with them so easily ! To conclude, it was like paradise during a week. Bobo and Giusy are the perfect hosts. I can assure you we'll be back on board soon for Sardinia west coast cruise on the Blue Magic with both of them. Further more, 2 painful moments during the cruise : the minute you get back in your pants after a week on board living in a swimsuit (like to be in jail), and the time to say goodbye to Bobo an Giusy because they became a part of our family :-(( Last advice : 2 swimsuits, 2 T-shirts, 2 shorts for each person on board is enough for the entire week, so forget trolley and all the unuseful stuff you usually take on vacation

What would it be like to go back in time to the Jurassic era? Today you will be literally catapulted into an ancestral dimension where time stands still: welcome to the “Tacchi d’Ogliastra” (heels of Ogliastra) We will ride in an absolute quiet environment, contemplating unspoiled nature as far as the eye can see. With the calm cows by our side and the large mirror of the water of the Bau Muggeris lake in the background, we will reach Perda e' Liana. It is an imposing solitary Tacco (heel) dating back to the Jurassic period that, from above of its 1293mt in height, it dominates the entire area, it is a real natural monument. Here we will stop to rest, take some photos and/or walk to the limestone rock to admire it from closer (about 15 minutes walk to reach it). The bike tour is about 35km long and thanks to electric bikes, for us today it will be all fun.

Ogliastra is one of the 5 "World Blue Zones". Research is still underway on the genetics of the local population in an attempt to discover the "youth gene". What affects Ogliastrine longevity? Come and discover it in this beautiful walk whose path takes place mainly on the plain with a slight gradient in the central part. It is suitable for all those who are in good health and have no walking disabilities. A walk where the mountain is kissed by the sea and where the flowing waters of the stream have dug the bear rock to create a spectacular theater of natural pools where you can also dip your toes to get refreshment. Route: 7 km Walk: 2,5h Gradient: +/- 80 m Difficulty: E - easy Transportation: Own car To bring: - Trainers - Comfortable clothes - Mask and gloves, disinfectant gel - Water, snacks - Hat, sunscreen - Swimsuit and towel (if you want a dip!)

We booked this trip based on TripAdvisor reviews and did not regret it! We had an amazing day with our friendly skipper. He took us to the most beautiful beaches we‘ve ever seen in Sardinia (and which are typically not easy to reach). He also showed us some caves and told us a bit about the scenery. We also booked the Grotta visit which was an interesting experience too - especially as this was one of the biggest caves like this we have ever seen. The big advantage of travelling in October was that the beaches were almost empty but the weather and temperature were still quite good. If you have the chance to do this trip, we would definitely recommend it!
