We travelled by train to Amsterdam and only saw one windmill - went past too quickly to get a photo. Zaanse Sch.. is a site where working windmills and other traditional Dutch working buildings have been brought together in one place. Plenty to see and do. Visiting inside of windmill was fascinating. The working clogs museum showing how they were traditionally made and more recent "industrial" processes was also worthwhile.

To start with, I visited this park twice in quick succession at the end of November and at the start of December, both times with a different group of friends. I am aware that as a thrill rides enthusiast I am not the target customer segment for this theme park, but I still wanted to try if it is as magical as people state. Firstly, when you exit the overcrowded bus (especially during corona times) that takes you from Tilburg to Efteling entrance, you see a massive elf-themed building that serves as an entrance. Their ticket checking process does not take long and soon you find yourself in the park. The layout of it is quite confusing but you can help yourself with the help of their mobile app that has a navigation option on the park map. I ran to the roller coasters first because that was the thing, I was most excited about. All roller coasters except the wooden one, have one thing in common and that is that they are incredibly short. Especially Baron 1898, their dive coaster and Python, their looping coaster are over before they even properly start which is a shame when you spend a long time waiting in the queue, but unlike Python that is pretty soft and does not really offer a high dose of adrenaline, Baron is a great coaster that is very well themed too. The other good-themed coaster is The Flying Dutchman, their water coaster. It really gives you a pirate-like vibe with the music and the station that looks a bit like an old port. Coaster that is worth visiting apart from these two is Jooris en de Draak which is a wooden dualling coaster that certainly lacks in the theming department but makes up for it as it is a very fun ride that is of a decent length. On the other hand, Efteling is more famous for its dark rides. The one that I enjoyed the most was Fata Morgana. Their Arabic-themed dark ride takes you on a boat past multiple interesting scenes. Also Symbolica, their trackless dark ride that takes place in a castle is worth visiting. I was not a massive fan of Vila Volta however. The queue took ages and there is long storytelling part that is completely in Dutch and therefore, internationals like me do not understand it. Also, the mad house just made me dizzy and was certainly not worth the wait. I unfortunately did not manage to do Dreamflight. Food in the park is pretty average but fairly priced. There are a lot of food stands but during the lunch time it gets pretty busy, so I recommend you to eat before or after peak hours. Since it is winter, they also had a Christmas market that was just a collection of food and beverage shops that you can find throughout the park surrounded with Christmas trees covered with fake snow and overall pretty underwhelming. The park is covered with Christmas lights though and when it gets dark it looks quite nice. Overall, I think Efteling is a nice theme park especially for fairy-tale loving kids which is what they are famous for. I like the fact that it is not all about the rides and they have some nice areas to relax like fairy-tale forest for example. On the other hand, they lack on the thrills department. They have enough coasters but no one of them is really outstanding and majority of them are simply too short so therefore, they lack a standout main coaster which I hope it is going to be build in next years. To conclude, even though Efteling has some cons and areas where improvements are needed it is still a great theme-park that is certainly worth visiting.
