TLDR; this is a tremendous experience for the adventurous traveler; if you have an open mindset about meeting new people, enjoy hiking and the outdoors, and don't mind an occasionally rough ride, this is an incredible trip and well worth your time. Having never traveled outside the US, I wanted to go big on my first solo trip with the 62-day excursion from Pretoria to Nairobi. Since it was such an extensive trip, I was looking for the most value for my time, based on price, activities, and safety. I backpack often, so beyond basic comfort was not a priority for me, which turned out to be a good mindset to adopt since we camped nearly the entire trip, & rode in a truck with no AC (Namibia gets hot!). Tip - be ready to retrieve the rain fly for your tent during unexpected 3 AM rain showers! However, nearly all of the sites we stayed at had the option to upgrade from camping to comfortable indoor accommodations, which was a nice option to take advantage of occasionally. Once we reached our site for the night, we began our daily rotating duties, which included helping to cook, clean the truck, and do dishes, which I think added to the experience and helped bond our fellow tourists. Traveling solo, I felt safe at all times with our guides, drivers, and locations. My trip was split between two guides, Crispen, then Pete, and they were great company that looked out for us and kept us safe and informed about everything around us. Our guides were familiar with the paths and knew everyone at our destinations. Nothing surprised them. Our drivers were impressive as well, with Harmony and Francis keeping us safe on the often-tumultuous African roads. Navigating both urban and off-road environments in our trucks was no easy task, and Francis even proved his mechanic skills during the occasional break-down. The variety of locations we stayed at were simply incredible. From Cape Town to the deserts of Namibia, the Okavango Delta to Zanzibar Island, the mixture of urban and remote landscapes couldn't have been better. We saw every animal you can imagine. On a trip like this, an open mindset is key. Traveling for two months with strangers can go any number of ways, but due to this trip, I now have lifelong friends scattered across the globe that I can't wait to visit. This wasn't just a vacation, it was a lasting, eye-opening experience that I believe everyone should try if possible. I can't recommend this trip enough. I wish I could go back to January and do it all over again.

Had a great trip on the mokoro with a local guide called Elijah arranged through Kalahari Breeze. Great communication and planning from Chris and team to help us prepare (eg timings, what to bring etc). Was about 1 hour drive from the hotel to the village. At the village we were met by Elijah to go on the mokoro. On the way out (upstream) the mokoro ride was about 1.5 hours with a few hippo sightings along the way. It’s completely exposed so make sure bring sunscreen / long sleeves! Once we arrived at the island we did a walking safari / hike for about 3 hours. It was quite long in the brutal heat but well worth it as Elijah was able to show us elephants, giraffe and wildebeest - all from afar but still much more than we were expecting. We then had a quick lunch prepared by Chris and team and set off back to the village on the mokoro. The way back was quicker as downstream and just as well after a long day. We got back by about 3:30pm. Overall a great day out and way to experience the Okavango delta. Highly recommend!

Blending into the surroundings and enhancing the natural elements around us, while maintaining all the comforts and necessities required to create the perfect safari feel and experience was the aim when designing the Lodge. Large spanning decks are nestled and spread out between majestic acacia tress and the unmistakable “Mogotse” bush resembling the horns of a Gemsbok are customary to the Lodge’s ambience. Unlimited access to the the Boteti River either by simply enjoying a refreshing drink and viewing the hippo, crocodiles or abundant birdlife or by a guided Mokoro (Traditional dug out canoe) or Motorboat cruise down the river. Although spread over a massive area the lodge is small and intimate allowing for a personalized experience for all guests and enhanced by skilled staff to attend to your every need. The remote location is situated away from all man made distractions allowing one to truly submerge themselves into the splendor of pristine and untouched natural surroundings.
Inclusions: Breakfast, Dinner, Dinner, Lunch, Breakfast

In the early morning we pick you at your hotel or lodge or the airport in Maun. The tour starts at 07:30h with a 1h speedboat cruise to the Buffalo Fence. At lunch time we stop for a picnic meal on one of the islands before your guide takes you on an nature walk where we hope to see more animals and learn about the delta its plants, animals and the tribes living here. As vegan travellers we are always hyper aware when booking trips as to what the hotel or tour operator is able to offer us in the way of food. Saying that they can provide good vegan fare, and actually living up to that statement can be worlds apart. We are very used to being undercatered for, or given measly portions of fruit or unimaginative salad whilst others are tucking into hearty meals. When Chris proclaimed that Kalahari Breeze can cater for any special dietary requirements it was certainly a bold statement to make. We were excited for a safari that would cater for us, and so we set off hopeful but none the less still dubious as to what exactly we would be served. Well, as it turned out, we were treated to feast after feast. Every thought was made right from delicious vegan snack bars for the pole ride, to decadent meals at the camp. We enjoyed a range of tasty meals from stuffed gems squashes, to a braai with so many sides I could barely eat them all. For breakfast we started with a creamy porridge which was followed up by an entire 'English breakfast' with vegan sausages, mushrooms, smoky sweet potatoes amongst other items, including ciabbata with fig jam! I mean come on, it was literally better than most the restaurant breakfasts and WE WERE IN THE OKAVANGO DELTA! Am I overselling this company on their ability to cater delicious food for vegan's and other specific diets? Not at all. We were literally blown away! Chris's company also practices sustainable tourism, which is a philosophy of ethical travel that really speaks to us as a couple. When you meet Chris, you will instantly get an understanding of what this means to him as a person and Kalahari Breeze. From ensuring the best treatment of those whom they work with (the polers from Bolo) to creating as minimal impact on the environment. Everything that they take in (including tents, beds, camping toilets, shower bags and a whole lot of food) all comes out again and the earth is left as if no one had been there at all. At times, we wanted to get a little closer to the animals we had the pleasure of seeing. Our tour guide, Isaac, who is an expert in all things flora and fauna, kept us back and reminded us that we are in the the territory of wild animals, and not only for our own safety but to also respect and preserve the environment as a wild and space for these animals. As a tour operator that runs on foundations of respect, experience and careful planning I cannot recommend them enough!
