Getting sick on vacation is a major drag, but if you have to be under the weather, Montpellier is an ideal place to do it. People have studied medicine here for centuries—the Moors established medical schools in the 9th century, and the Université Montpellier’s school of medicine was founded in 1220. Once the local docs give you a clean bill of health, explore the cathedral, mansions and opera house.

David, the guide, was great. He is really flexible and allows you to stay as long as you want at any site. He is knowledgable and is great at sharing some of the mythology surrounding the construction of some of the sites you will see. The tour is varied - some beautiful old villages, a gorgeous lake, a little walking through some amazing rock formations to some viewpoints and a stunning old abbey. Make sure you wear shoes that are decent for some walking! And pack your picnic lunch to have by the lake. I was surprised that I was the only guest on the tour. So many of the region's guides won't do a tour for only one person, and David did not even raise the price! The tour is excellent value, and very enjoyable! Beware that the starting point is a little outside the centre of Montpellier, but it is an easy tram ride to get there.

Departure from Peyrou, at the foot of the aqueduct. This is where the spring water arrived from Saint Clément de Rivière. At the end of the morning, we will go to the Saint Clément domain where you will be able to see the place where the aqueduct separates to join the different springs that fed it. Then taste the wines of the estate classified as a vineyard & discovery. After the lunch break, we will head towards the source of the Lez and then head off to the heights of the small villages of the Grand Pic Saint Loup region, in search of the most beautiful panoramas. After the splendid views, visit Saint Martin de Londres, a pretty medieval village. In the old village, stroll through the charming narrow streets lined with stone houses.

We went on the 2 hour tour of the old and new city. It was brilliant fun (despite falling off - no lasting damage ????). The guide was really knowledgeable and passionate about the city which made it even more interesting. We would definitely recommend this to anyone visiting Montpellier, particularly for a short period of time as you can whizz around and see all of the main attractions in no time at all.

We had a fantastic time on this tour. We visited two wineries, one large and one small, and tasted 10 different wines. Carine was fantastic and very friendly. She answered all our questions and filled us in on an array of local knowledge of the region and the wines. We will definitely look to do another one of the tours in the near future!
