Renowned for its modernist lines and futuristic design, Brasilia is a study in urban planning and the only city built in the 20th century to be counted among UNESCO's World Heritage Sites. Where only five years before its inception there was desert, now there are innovative buildings and imaginative monuments, ranging from the hyperboloid Cathedral of Brasilia to the lunar-esque Complexo Cultural da Republica to the glass-box Palacio da Alvorada.

This tour was very well organized both before the actual tour and during with regular updates and communication from the organizers. Our guide was very lovely but her English language ability was a bit limited which made it difficult to follow what she was saying about some of the attractions. Otherwise totally recommend it.

Great value for money. Toured all the major sights in the area on a minibus. Apart from the history of the development of Brasilia and some interesting architecture there’s not much to see. The Don Bosco blue church was the most striking. The guide was knowledgeable, but not very engaged. We had been to the art museum the day before which is really just an exhibition space for artists.

She is also from the architecture major and also an excellent professional in bike tour even with Asian and European tour leader experience. She shared sooo much with me on the city history of the city. I would the tour experience is my best among all trips I have in Brasil until now. The four Scales of Lucius are the Monumental, Gregory, Residential and Bucolic, and we will go through them, realizing the characteristics and differences between each of the urban configurations, and the importance that this modernist project has for the history of architecture and urbanism in the world. . If you're lucky with the weather (and I was) taking a bike tour around Brasilia is a nice way to get an introduction to the city. In my case I was the only one signed up the day I did it, so we went solo. Just me and the guide, Alberto, who was knowledgable and laid-back, and patient about stopping whenever I wanted to (which was appreciated, as I'm a photographer and I sometimes needed a bit of time to grab the shots I wanted). For those who aren't particularly athletic I would say this is a totally accessible tour... nothing too strenuous or difficult. And in the end a very pleasant way to get an overview of the lay-out of the town. Recommended. :)

The JK Memorial and Crystal Square Bike Tour will take the tourist to cycle in the Civic-Administrative Zone of the capital. The Memorial JK is an important work designed by Oscar Niemeyer and houses a museum and a burial chamber containing the remains of Juscelino Kubitschek, former president of Brazil and founder of the city of Brasilia. This is a great place to learn the history of Kubitschek and our capital. By bike we travel impossible circuits to other vehicles and the perspective of the city is completely different.

New to Brasilia, we asked Alberto to provide us a full overview of what and who were here when Brasilia was built, why the city was built and why it was built here, and what were the guiding principles of President Kubitschek, Oscar Niemeyer, Roberto Marx, and the other architects and designers. Alberto did all that, plus, for context, he explained aspects of the history, economics, and culture of Brazil, from the 1800s to the present. Alberto offered to drive, but as we had planned for four of us to take the tour, we used our rental SUV to drive from building to building for about six hours, including a stop for lunch in Pontão. That was long enough to stop and walk around some of the buildings, although because of COVID, not all of the buildings were open. Still, we were able to enter the Kubitschek memorial, the cathedral, the Sanctuario Dom Bosco, the exterior of the complexo do Quartel General do Exercito, Praca dos Tres Poderes, the exterior of the Ministry of Justice, and the tiny Igreja Nossa Senhora de Fátima. It was a thorough and exhausting day, leaving us stuffed full of information to better understand this city and its place in the history and culture of Brazil and its role as an icon of international Modern Architecture.
