Sherburne National Wildlife Refuge

Reviewed By Flywayking - Alexandria, Minnesota

I've been to multiple parts of the Sherburne refuge. With my girlfriend and our two dogs and to hunt myself. The refuge is broken up into 3 zones. Depending on the time of year I recommend doing the research in keeping yourself safe and knowledgeable of the location of where you're at. I hunt zone B for small game. My biggest question moving from Wisconsin to Minnesota is if I can use a .22 caliber rifle to harvest small game. I have yet to harvest any animal on the refuge but every time I find myself in amazement of what it has to offer. I love walking in the woods and trains and seeing sign of animals in the woods. There is so many different areas that offer different sightings of birds and mammals that you can't get the full effect in, in one day. This early fall I may have seen a bear while scouting for small game. Be aware of your surroundings and cautious about pressing ahead if it isn't comfortable. Enjoy the outdoors. Respect the conservationist and do the research prior to your hike or hunt and you'll have a great time regardless if you come home with food or not. Enjoy!

Brand new visitors center as of this week. Went for the first time with our 9 and 12 year old kids and grandparents. We stayed 2 hours and everyone had a good time. Lots of interaction with animals, chores, and a historical way of life.

Albertville Premium Outlets

Find impressive savings at Adidas, Ann Taylor Factory Store, Banana Republic, BCBG Max Azria, Calvin Klein, Coach, Gap Outlet, Gymboree, Kenneth Cole, Nike, Polo Ralph Lauren, Tommy Hilfiger and more. Albertville Premium Outlets are located between Minneapolis and St. Cloud.

This outlet center has a nice collection of stores with great merchandise but it's just too spread out. Whoever designed this thing did a horrible job as you literally have to drive to each section or walk a mile to and from your car. Plus, it's separated by a busy thoroughfare. I just don't get it. But, we just happened upon it on our drive from Minneapolis to St. Cloud and ended up finding a lot of great buys and brand name stores that you don't find at many other outlet centers (North Face and UGG, in particular).

The Lupulin Red is my new favorite breakfast. Just kidding, but it really is amazing. It'll be the perfect brew for summer--forget your wimpy shandies and go for a growler of the Red! They've got others, too, and there's good reason this place is my son-in-law's favorite. You can order food from other places and eat it whilst you quaff your favorite Lupulin brew. Enjoy!

Blue Hill Trail

Reviewed By Dean K - Princeton, Minnesota

I visit this trail every month of the year. Very satisfying hike, run or ski opportunities in a natural setting. Single track dirt trail. No biking or snowshoeing intended. Only one significant climb to get to the top of Blue Hill (optional spur trail) otherwise pretty flat terrain that goes through prairie, Oak Savannah, Pine woods and along marshy area by Buck Lake. Observation decks in two locations with free spotting scopes (adult and children heights). Trail length options from 2 miles to 4.5 miles. Restroom at parking lot. Kiosk with refuge information at trailhead. Good for birding throughout the year.

KJs Refuge

Reviewed By Phil M - Brainerd, Minnesota

Was there on 6/24/2015 - a Wednesday evening at 7:00 - kinda past the dinner hour. A group of 6 were leaving when we walked in. It appeared that there may have been two people working that contributed to our experience (bartender/server & cook)? Service was slow. Granted it's a Wednesday evening, and you could kinda tell they were stretched thin as the former customers tables were not cleared for at least half an hour. Drinks - again service slow. My son and I ordered lemonades. She commented that she had to change the tanks out. Well - she never cleared the lines. I did not get lemonade, but what tasted like water with a lemon slice added. Certainly NOT $4.50 worth of lemonade... Burgers were the saving grace. They were good. My wife had a chicken fajita wrap which we laughed about. It was an average chicken wrap with ranch sauce on the side with a dash of barbecue sauce in it - not my standard of a fajita... Because it is local and close by, we may give it another shot, otherwise we would not waste our time.

Rum River

Reviewed By John R - Anoka

The Rum River runs right through downtown Anoka. There is a walking and a bike path that runs along the river North from downtown to North of Bunker Lake Blvd. The path runs South in town through Akin Riverside Park.

There is a small dam that is visible from Main Street Anoka. It is lit which makes it nice to see at night.

Besides the park, there is also a fishing platform North of East Main Street by Anoka City Hall. There are benches along the river to sit and relax and just watch the river.

There are also parks on the West side of the River by the Anoka County Fairgrounds, and both North and South of Bunker Lake Blvd.

Depending on what you want to do, you could spend a short time at the park or walking along the river, or make it an entire day and have a picnic, go fishing, or canoeing.

There is also some historical sites along the river in Anoka.
