Whiteface may have made its name in winter, it has the highest vertical drop in the east, after all but it does summer pretty well too. The warmer months make Whiteface a natural setting for outdoor enthusiasts of all levels and ages, whether you're looking for an adrenaline rush or just an afternoon of beautiful views with your family. Take a hike along the Stag Brook Falls trail or Bear Den Mountain, play a round of Disc Golf and check out the area's most exhilarating, challenging Mountain Biking terrain. Or gather the family for an afternoon of taking it all in with a Scenic Cloudsplitter Gondola Ride to the summit of Little Whiteface. Drive the Whiteface Veteran's Memorial Highway to the summit, and lean into the Adirondack breeze as you marvel at the world below you. This well-known mountain offers exciting and scenic runs for skiers of all levels: Beginners do well on Easy Acres, which features its own ski school, novices and intermediates enjoy Little Whiteface, while experts head to the heart-pounding summit.
We drove up the veterans highway to the top. Although with Covid the castle and other areas were not open we were able to park and take amazing photos. It was a great drive and the views were spectacular.

The Adirondack Wildlife Refuge is a privately owned facility dedicated to conservation education, wildlife rehabilitation, and providing sanctuary for wildlife unable to live in the wild. Visitors to the Refuge will have the opportunity to see ambassador wildlife unable to survive in the wild and learn about these species, their habitat, and the issues affecting them. Currently, AWR is on hiatus from rehabilitation. When we do conduct rehab, those animals are not able to be viewed by the public, as they will ultimately be released back into the wild where they belong.
I visited the refuge while the rest of the family was skiing. The manager was extremely knowledgeable, and I learned some interesting facts about wolves. I enjoyed visiting the animals, almost all of whom are unable to be released into the wild due to injury. I decided to take the longer trail back to the center, which was peaceful and beautiful. It was snow covered but very well marked. The highlight was when the wolves began to howl. It was so beautiful in the woods listening to the wolves—an amazing experience. Definitely the highlight of my trip. The center is free by donation, is very kid friendly, and I will definitely return with my kids who would love it.

We camped nearby and went regularly to this beach. Nice swimming area, playground, and a good spot to launch kayaks. If you swim outside the swimming area, you may run into a beaver! Even a pavilion, washrooms, and a nature trail. Never busy. Set back in from the road so you'll miss it if you don't look for the sign.

The Lady at the bottom in the tollbooth told us visibility was zero at the summit and the summit is about 5 miles to travel to get to. The radar said that the afternoon would be partly sunny so we took our chances she was right the summit was completely engulfed in clouds after about 45 minutes the clouds got less and less and we got to see with no clouds if you can go on a cloudy day it’s pretty awesome to experience what it’s like to be in a cloud. The top hiking section was close to the WeatherStation due to Covid but many great views are still seen. The bathrooms are open at the top and food concession is also open at the top. Make sure you read your car manual to understand how to drive down steep hills without burning up your brakes. This place was really awesome it’s a must do if you are in the lake placid area

We visited this gorge on a rainy day, but we still had so much fun! It was $28 for 2 adults, but worth it! It’s about a mile walk around in a loop and an optional nature trail that brings you through the woods a little. On the main trail you get gorgeous views of the falls, it literally takes you right up next to them! There are little picturesque bridges along the way as well. I would definitely go back!
