I am used to museums that have rooms and rooms of displays. This one has 2 rooms and a couple of additional outbuildings. I was glad to see the preservation effort, but didn't feel that the presentation made me understand what it was really all about. The building housing the collection, a jail and an additional outbuilding comprised the whole of the museum. Except for one employee, I was alone there. The employee tried to keep herself busy in the gift shop while I puttered through the rooms. I got the impression that she was basically waiting for me to leave so she could get back to where she had been in the rear of the building before I intruded. There are a few interesting examples of 19th century women's dresses there. It is worth seeing if you are passing through the area. Admission is free.

We had a wonderful two-hour cruise with Captain Phil. Will return again with friends and family. I can't recommend this more highly. From the comfortable boat to the warm and friendly captain/host, to the beauty of the water and wildlife, you will not be sorry.

While having fantastic boat repair work done by Zimmermans Marine in Deltaville, we were directed to check out this museum. We brought our dog with us and this place was dog friendly and filled with local history on oystering and everything else from these waters including boat building. The grounds are beautiful, especially the gardens.

We were introduced to this course by a member but the public are sure of a friendly welcome. The 18 hole course consists of two very different 9's the first hilly and narrow and the second flatter and wider but still a challenge. The sixteenth is interesting with a split fairway making for an interesting choice of drive on this par 5. The clubhouse has an excellent pro-shop and restaurant overlooking the 18th green. We have played this course a number of times and hope to come back for more!

We spent a fascinating hour here learning about the Chesapeake Bay's past with steamboat travel, both for passengers and cargo. The knowledgeable docent gave us a brief introductory tour, then left us on our own to watch videos, look at exquisitely detailed models, read info about steamboat building and individual captains. It was well worth the $5 admission charge.

we just happened upon this place and are glad we did... beautiful grounds, nice walking trails, a small maritime museum, a new events pavilion (very nice spot for wedding or event), an outdoor stage, and 3 historic boats all overlooking the Chesapeake bay. grounds have plenty of flowers and some sculptures. there are ample open grassy areas and also plenty of shade trees. near the well shaded outdoor stage is a lovely wood gazebo with chairs and tables. other picnic tables scattered about the property. a copse of forest has trails with plenty of benches, and multiple signs to help identify trees and plants. we thoroughly enjoyed our road break.
at the wharf (adjacent to the stage/gazebo) are refurbished working boats from the bays history as well as a replica of the small craft capt. john smith used to explore the Chesapeake in the early years of Virginia

The Dog and Oyster is an extraordinary vineyard owned by The Hope and Glory Inn. Come sip some of America's best wine and savor the world's best oysters on site.
There are so many great things to say about The Dog and Oyster Vineyard. The setting is anything but pretentious! The hosts, Peggy and Dudley Patteson, along with their entire staff make everyone feel welcome and taken care of. Delicious wines along with AMAZING food prepared by Bryan Byrd, owner/operator of Byrd's Seafood Co. make this a "must go to" anytime you're on the Northern Neck. Let me tell you ~ I know soft shell crabs and Bryan prepares them better than any I've ever eaten! Additionally, his oysters are sublime ~ just about any way you like 'em, including tacos! The food and wine pairing are perfect. Sitting out under umbrellas, sipping wine, and enjoying a bite to eat is delightful and just too civilized in a world gone bonkers! Cheers! Proost! Na zdravi! Egészségére! À votre santé! Salute! Prost! Na zdrowie! Salud!

We were introduced to the Golden Eagle by a 'local' and what a delightful parkland course this is. The course boasts many bunkers and a number of holes with water hazards but is a fair challenge to all levels of golfers. The tee areas, fairways and greens are well kept and 'true' but one minor quibble was the 'concrete' nature of the bunkers. But this did not spoil the day. I would recommend this course to anybody near Irvington.
