Overlooking the Hudson River in Tarrytown, New York, is Lyndhurst, one of America’s finest Gothic Revival mansions. Designed in 1838 by Alexander Jackson Davis, its architectural brilliance is complemented by the park-like landscape of the estate and a comprehensive collection of original decorative arts. Its noteworthy occupants included: former New York City mayor William Paulding, merchant George Merritt, and railroad tycoon Jay Gould. Lyndhurst is a site of the National Trust for Historic Preservation.
Our guide, Jim, gave such an informative, interesting tour of the mansion. You came away feeling you really got to know a lot about the people who had lived there! Every room was breathtaking in furnishings and decorations for Christmas! This was a perfect time to visit! Even though the mansion is very large, it felt like a home...just lovely!

Grand home and grounds of this former Rockefeller estate offer a marvelous collection of modern sculptures, Chinese and European ceramics, fine furnishings and beautifully landscaped terraces and gardens. KYKUIT IS TEMPORARILY CLOSED UNTIL MAY 3. Please continue to check this listing or go to our website for updates.
I took the Kykuit house tour of the home and grounds. I did not expect to see such spectacular views and a Picasso art collection that was so extensive. Our guide, "Merla" was a treasure. She made every room and outdoor view come alive. The weather that day could not be better and the grounds were as interesting as the home. Be sure to go on a day when good weather is predicted. You will be amazed at the sheer beauty of the location as well as the extensive and priceless art collection. What was particularly special was how close you could get to the objects. So much better than any museum.

The cemetery was well kept and it was a beautiful fall walk. The graves were interesting and some were unusual. Interesting that Roosevelt, Carnegie, and Gompers were all in there together. Made for good commentary when discussing the gilded age in history class.

Palisades Center is among the top ten most visited malls in America and is the premier shopping, dining and entertainment destination in Rockland County. Located just 18 miles north of NYC, Palisades Center is a four-level mall offering over 200 stores, 15 sit-down restaurants, a bowling alley, ice rink, indoor ropes course, comedy club and more. With its unique and diverse merchant tenant mix, Palisades Center is the go-to place for local shoppers and tourists alike.
We've been going to this mall since it opened. It certainly has changed over the years, and we miss some of the "nicer" stores that were there in the past, but we still enjoy it. It still has a pretty good variety of stores. We go to shop, and to the theater, but frequently, we have lunch on the 4th floor, then we walk, doing a circuit of every single floor. Then back to the 4th floor to the Starbucks in Barnes and Noble for a decaf. Because we're retired we only go during the week, and so avoid the crowds. It isn't the most attractive mall, but there is plenty of parking and it's close by where we live.

We had a great time on the Al Vento with captain Kevin et al. The boat is beautiful and the team couldn't have been nicer. A great way to see the lower Hudson Valley waterfront. I'll bet a multi day trip would be great fun.

Some of the characters in Irving's Legend can be found buried in this cemetery.
We were here for the "Legend" which included both an excellent storyteller in period costume and an equally good musician also in costume. Getting to sit on these historic pews allowed us to go back in time and imagine what it was like for the early settlers (who must have worked very hard to appreciate those wooden benches).
