One of the pretties courthouses in Texas, this place is easy to check out and just a beautiful piece of eye candy that was created. Sulphur Springs has a mini version of this courthouse. You can walk around a lot of the inside of this building as well. The carvings on the exterior are fabulous. It makes a nice focal point for the downtown.

Museum that displays a beautiful collection of silk and ivory fans, ivory pitchers, and other items from various time periods.
We were impressed with the amount of local history we were able to learn while visiting the museum. It was well worth our stop. The staff were knowledgeable, friendly, and very informative.. We were able to see most of the museum in about 60-90 minutes.

We just attended the Christmas presentation of Happy Hollandaise, a wonderful holiday play performed by local actors. The unique building was handicap accessible and quite comfortable for a mild Texas winter evening. Be aware that there is no heating/cooling and no indoor plumbing available. The building does provide some large windows that can be opened for cross ventilation and has some ceiling fans. The seating is wood slotted church pews, and experienced folks seemed to know to bring some cushions/padding with them. Drinks, nachos and popcorn were available for purchase at intermission.

On our two hour tour, you will learn about the past that history book tend to ignore. Stops include the well-known Ellis County Courthouse and The Rogers Hotel. The tour is informative, interesting, and maybe a little bit spooky!
Doug Reid leads the Waxahachie Ghost Tour guests on a two hour tour of both the history of Waxahachie and the legends. There are some fabulous architectural highlights along with a generous helping of local historical anecdotes. Yes, there are lots of stories of spirits and Doug does his due diligence to back them up with documented sources from old newspapers and books. If he can't verify the documentation, he tells you. It's a good story either way. Doug is articulate and interesting. You can tell he loves what he does and you will be entertained.

This is one of the largest folk art galleries in Texas, with all sorts of items for sale.
Half a block from the courthouse on Franklin Street you will find the Webb gallery. The collection of items inside is very intriguing. There is a strong focus on fraternal items: Masonic and Odd Fellows. The objects in the front window are made out of toothpicks and are very cool; a true testament to patience. There are also many other unusual pieces. This is definitely worth a pop-in if you are in Waxahachie. Items are reasonably priced if you are in the market to buy something different.
