If you visit Washington, you need to see if there are any events here while you visit. It is an awesome theatre in the heart of downtown. If you are lucky enough to be in town on Thursday or a Saturday, stop by Thursday evenings from 6:30 - 8:30 or Saturday morning at 10 to listen to the Beaufort County Traditional Music Association. It's free and it's the Associations time to play in the round. You can also bring an instrument if you play and join them The music is fantastic. You can come in anytime during their jams. They also have art openings here, movies and musical events. They did an incredible job in refurbishing the theatre - it's just beautiful!

My girlfriend and I rented a tandem kayak from here. Staff was friendly and very helpful. From where you launch you can either go towards the river to the right or to the creek to the left. We explored the creek for a few hours. It was very peaceful, and there was some good wildlife (saw our first bald eagle in the wild). Great place for a quick paddle.

A great place to purchase affordable contemporar art. This funky downtown gallery resides in a rehabbed historical property just past Market st. Exposed brick walls and original fireplaces are a great stage for a continually rotating exhibit of modern art by primarily southern artists. Future plans include a fully landscaped patio designed for leisure as well as a wine and craft beer menu.

We camped two nights in the "primitive" campground - separate from the very new RV and cabin area. It was one of the best we've camped in due to the size of each site and distance between them. That made it very quiet and smoke-free. Reservations are a must. Water is available as well as some decent composting toilets. Be mindful of the camping area closing time. We were hiking in another part of the park and got locked out of the camping area! We were 5 minutes early for closure, but a ranger had already locked the gate at the RV camp road. He was nearby and unlocked it for us. Near campsite 10, there is a pier and put-in for canoes of kayaks and a canoe trail into the creek. Hikes were over flat terrain. We hiked the long Goose Creek trail, Mallard Creek Loop (with a nice observation at the heavily reeded Mallard Creek), and the Palmetto Boardwalk through a lovely sunny marshland area. You must start the latter behind the visitor center as it is closed at the other end at the Tar Kiln trail. Part of the boardwalk is destroyed. The Flatty Creek boardwalk is also closed for the same reason. All in all, though, it is a well-maintained park with opportunities for viewing Great Blue Herons, eagles, woodpeckers, and deer, as we did.
