Barefoot Beach Preserve

We have come to this beach for over 20 years and have noticed there are considerably less shells than there used to be. But it's still a great beach for shelling, for native wildlife, usually a dolphin sighting, great sunsets. During season get there early or you won't find parking and the beach gets crowded. Bring everything you need, no real amenities.

Vanderbilt Beach

Living in SWF offers many beach going opportunities. We are blessed with some awesome spots for a beach day. One of our favorite area beaches is Vanderbilt. Besides being a very picturesque section of coastline, Vanderbilt has close proximity to some really excellent restaurants and beach bars for “after beach” stops. The Ritz Carlton alone is a worthwhile stop (directly on Vanderbilt). There is a convenient drop off area at the main beach access road and a parking garage adjacent to this same drop off area. Be advised though that weekends at Vanderbilt are always crowded (pretty much year round) and Vanderbilt is always crowded in-season. The experience here is similar to Naples beach, another of our favorites.

It is nice to have the option of walking under the tropical canopy or riding the tram to the beach. There was so much nature! We saw large crabs, sand dollars, and dolphins. The water was clear and the sky was beautiful.

I took the guided tour while spending a weekend in Naples. Jerry the guide was great about telling us the physical features of the house and the early history of Naples. What a colorful story -- recluses, renegades, rumrunners, and speculators played a big part in drawing attention to Naples's potential. The recorded oral histories are a bonus, and the garden is beautiful. This is a great way to spend an hour or two.

I had the honor of being a chaperone for 40 of my granddaughters 8th grade classmates. If you can plan your visit when a guide is available it will be worth it. Stuart was our guide and was excellent as he added a personal side to his narration as both of his parents were survivors of the death camps.
We must always honor the victims murdered during the holocaust and thank god for those that survived and lived to tell their stories and the truth!
