Monday 16th November and we drove the 7 kilometres from the town of Playatis to visit this Lighthouse. Although a surfaced road it was narrow, rather steep as it winded it's way up to the top of the cliff, 196 metres above sea level. It did feel a bit precarious at times. We did enjoy some stunning scenery as we wound our way along. Nothing prepared us for our sheer amazement as we turned the final corner to see this stunning structure in front of us. The building consists of 3 linked towers, with the largest in the centre with the light on its top. It is still operational and not open to the public. Visitors can park up in the spaces walk up close to the Lighthouse to have a look and take photographs. It was built in a Moorish style with brown/orange coloured stone and whitewashed cement. It was completed in 1955 and it is the 3rd highest lighthouse in the Canaries. There is also a small viewing platform, Mirador de la Entallada, that visitors can walk out on to the edge of and enjoy the incredible views. Before we set out to visit here, we were not expecting such an enjoyable experience as we had, including the drive up and back down. Fuerteventura does not seem to stop impressing us as it reveals its treasures to us.

An interesting journey through the history of the windmills in Fuerteventura. This unique experience will make you discover among other things the importance that was given to the grain from Prehistoric Times in the Island, the "Gofio" as an essential nutrient for the "Majorero" people over centuries or learning how to make the difference between a male or a female windmill.
We visited the windmill & information centre quite by chance & what a wonderful little place it is!We were briefly shown the rooms with some verbal information then left to our own devices to explore. The rooms & information are bilingual & have good pictures & models & there is a video to watch at the end.The windmill itself is lovely to explore & a great photo opportunity in the grounds. We had a demonstration of how to make ‘gofio’ & best of all tasted it! The best part of the visit was Gemma on the desk who initially welcomed us with a big smile & was so enthusiastic about the visitor centre. She was also kind enough to give us lots of information about places to visit on the rest of the island. This place is only small but well worth the €4 entrance fee. Our thanks to Gemma for a great visit .

A drive out today to the south of this fantastic island . We took in Gran Tarajal and loved it. Set in a bay with a huge beach, sheltered by cliffs to the north and harbour walls to the south, this beautiful small town was a delight, a real hidden gem which we could easily have passed by. Do not make that mistake. Shops, bars and restaurants in the town centre with play areas, a football stadium , entertainment complex and more. The whole place is beautifully maintained and presented from the immaculate beach to the walls with giant murals all around. Popped in for a quick stop, stayed most of the day. Do yourself a favour, visit Gran Tarajal.
